About The Position

Yanfeng is seeking a Senior Process Engineer to join their team. This role involves providing direction to the site process team, focusing on continuous improvement in injection molding processes such as cycle times, scrap reduction, quality enhancement, and material cost reduction. The Senior Process Engineer will develop and execute plans for process improvement, support new product launches by providing manufacturing input for new and existing processes and tooling, and follow established action plans for processes out of range. This position also requires collaboration with the Tooling Manager for tool repairs and maintenance, maintaining project documentation, enforcing safety rules, and developing employee development plans. The role involves working closely with the Technical Manager to create training materials and managing projects like new equipment justification, selection, and installation, as well as developing new manufacturing methods and qualifying new tooling. A key responsibility is root cause problem-solving using logical methodologies and data. The Senior Process Engineer will also develop training programs for process technicians and mold changers, leading initiatives to improve cycle times, reduce mold change times, and decrease process troubleshooting time. A working knowledge of tooling and the YFAI tool prove-out process is expected. Collaboration with cross-functional teams to identify capital improvement opportunities and develop justifications, including writing appropriation requests, is also part of the role. Other duties as assigned by the manager will be performed.

Requirements

  • 5-7 Minimum Years of Experience with injection molding process.
  • 5-9 Minimum Years of Experience within the automotive industry.
  • Must be able and willing to travel and work at customer sites, including industrial manufacturing plants which might require climbing, lifting, or working in confined spaces.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional understanding of injection molding processes.
  • Exceptional understanding and experience performing mold change requirements; experience using the use of SMED methods.
  • Extensive hands on experience with injection molding equipment, robotics, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Proven mechanical aptitude for problem solving.
  • Proven process and tolling engineering excellence in the automotive industry.

Nice To Haves

  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt preferred.
  • RJG Master Molder I and II preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assists providing direction to the site process team including PE's, Process Technicians, and mold setters.
  • Responsible for injection molding related continuous improvement including but not limited too - cycle times, scrap, quality, and material cost reduction.
  • Develops plans for injection molding process improvement and will have specific areas of accountability in its executions.
  • Provides support on new product launch tooling, providing the manufacturing input for development of new process and improvements to existing processes and tooling.
  • Follows established action plans for processes out of range.
  • Work with Tooling Manager for all tool repairs and maintenance.
  • Maintains documentation closely following necessary timeliness on specific projects.
  • Enforce safety rules daily and actively intervene to correct recognized unsafe actions and conditions.
  • Ability to complete employee development plans, organize, communicate, and motivate employees. Must be able to prioritize own work day schedule.
  • Works closely with the site Technical Manager to develop appropriate training material for the plant's operations.
  • Manages projects that could include: new equipment justification, selection, and installation; development of new manufacturing methods; machine utilization studies; and new tooling qualifications; in conjunction with the tooling process engineer, he/she will be responsible for new tool design and development.
  • Responsible to be a root cause problem solver (must have problem solving training); when solving processing issues the PE will apply a logical methodology and will use data where possible to make the best decision.
  • Develops a training program for process technicians and mold changers; leads cycle time improvements, mold change time reductions, and decreased process troubleshooting time.
  • Have working knowledge of tooling and the requirements of a successful tool/process combination; expected to understand the YFAI tool prove out process.
  • Work with cross functional team members to identify capital improvement opportunities and develop justification; when applicable the PE will need to write an appropriation’s request, follow the request through the approval process, and help the plant implement.
