About The Position

As a Technology Engineer, you will be instrumental in managing technical and quality aspects of melting, problem solving, and creating solutions that will help with deviations. In this role you will be a facilitator responsible for driving our Right First Time metrics as well as implementing and executing quality plans that will meet conformance and customer needs. In order to become successful, you’ll have to quickly learn ATI, our melting processes and be able to develop strong relationships with our customers and internal cross-functional teams. In this role, you’ll contribute to the strength of the entire facility and support a world class materials science company with multiple manufacturing operations.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Metallurgical, Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering.

Nice To Haves

  • B.S. or Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering with a metals focus.
  • Candidates with additional 3+ years work experience (helpful, but not required).
  • Working knowledge of cast-wrought processing (i.e., conventional primary melting, secondary remelting, press forging, radial forging, hot rolling, conditioning, heat treatment, etc.) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Act as internal/external technical contact for complete melting process for Titanium base alloys. This includes responsibility for raw materials, Electron Beam Cold Hearth melting (EBCH).
  • Provide support for formulation, conditioning, and preparatory operations.
  • Provide technical support in resolving process-related non-conformances and customer complaints.
  • Support the maintenance and standardization of operating instructions, mill instructions, and related equipment recipes.
  • Establish, monitor, and maintain statistical process control (SPC) limits for key products and processes within the melt and remelt departments.
  • Lead or participate in customer audits of ATI manufacturing facilities and supplier facilities, team-based continuous improvement activities including risk assessments (RAA), problem solving reports (PSR), process audits, and standard work.
  • Develop an understanding of various alloys and their specific melt related characteristics and behaviors, melting/remelting equipment capabilities and applications as well as evaluate impact of melt parameter changes/process improvements.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Maintenance personnel to develop improvements to manufacturing processes and standards that enhance safety in the workplace, equipment performance, and product quality.
  • Plan, execute and manage product/process continuous improvement programs that support several value streams using Plan-Do-Check-Act approach. Utilize statistical data analysis, process modeling, and sub/full-scale trials to support initiatives.
  • Communicate results in a timely manner to management, operations, colleagues, and customers in the form of written reports and oral presentations.
  • Support internal/external customers by analyzing process data, chemistry data, and non-destructive testing data.
