About The Position

We’re seeking a Sr. Process Engineer – Combustion to lead heat treat process engineering across multiple locations and play a critical role in improving product quality, furnace performance, and CO₂ reduction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or metallurgical engineering/Materials Science (required).
  • 5+ years of experience in the pipe, steel, or related manufacturing industry.
  • Strong background in process control, lean manufacturing, and statistical problem-solving.
  • Proven leadership experience guiding engineers and driving cross-functional initiatives.
  • Demonstrated success leading capital projects and process improvement programs.
  • Ability to independently manage complex initiatives in a multi-site environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) preferred.
  • Ideal experience with furnaces, burners, and refractory systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a multi-site team of Heat Treat process engineers (Youngstown, Houston, Muskogee).
  • Own the technical performance of all furnaces, ensuring robust, safe, and consistent operation.
  • Improve product quality, process control, and cost performance through data-driven process optimization.
  • Reduce process variation by maintaining and improving standard procedures and training engineers and operators.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives, quality loops, and root-cause problem-solving efforts.
  • Apply Manufacturing Process Control (MPC), Six Sigma, SPC, DOE, FMEA, and capability analysis to resolve quality and production issues.
  • Identify, develop, and implement capital projects aligned with Vallourec’s long-term strategy.
  • Lead and support R&D collaboration, benchmarking, and trials of new technologies, processes, and materials.
  • Build and track KPIs, report performance, and drive corrective actions.
  • Champion safe furnace operation with a strong focus on sustainability and CO₂ emission reduction.
  • Communicate effectively across departments, sites, and organizational levels.
