About The Position

This role is for a Senior Process Design Engineer, primarily responsible for the technical direction and supervision of a team of engineers and process design professionals when functioning as a Lead Engineer. The Lead Engineer ensures the timely, within-budget, and high-quality delivery of process engineering deliverables and services. This position requires extensive experience in chemical and process design engineering, utilizing project controls for cost, schedule, and quality management. The work will be performed in the Pasadena office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Biochemical, or Petroleum Engineering from an accredited university.
  • 10 years of relevant industrial experience in chemical, petroleum, or biochemical process design engineering.
  • Ability to train others in process safety and site safety requirements.
  • Knowledgeable in many aspects of process safety and how to incorporate these into process design.
  • Familiarity with specifications and installation details of equipment, instrumentation, and piping.
  • Ability to create accurate process engineering documents from vendor equipment data and drawings.
  • Ability to accurately estimate completion of assigned tasks.
  • Ability to assist in the development of a detailed engineering schedule and man-hour budget for the process engineering portion of major capital projects.
  • Experienced in estimating and scheduling professional service hours and assessing the progress and quality of process engineering work.
  • Develop design criteria and scope of work for major capital projects.
  • Complete understanding of the skills and experience required to perform process engineering and design functions.
  • Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.
  • Knowledge of CAD software such as AutoCAD or Microstation.
  • Ability to lead a small team on a major capital project to deliver on their commitments.
  • Ability to deliver convincing presentations of Hargrove Engineers & Constructors services to existing and new clients.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of hydraulic simulation software such as AFT Fathom, AFT Arrow, PIPEPHASE, PIPE-FLO, and/or SiNet.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of process simulation software such as Aspen Plus, Aspen Plus Dynamics, PRO/II, DYNSIM, HYSYS, CHEMCAD, WinGEMS, ProMax, etc.
  • Very good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Willing to travel as required for pre-bid meetings, client presentations and project site meetings.
  • Virtual team skills and cross divisional relationships are developed, and able to provide interoffice execution leadership and support.
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineering registration or CPIP certification is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Promoting a culture of safety and integrating safety concepts into process design.
  • Reviewing and approving all process engineering deliverables.
  • Validating professional service estimates at project initiation and tracking changes.
  • Producing professional service estimates according to Hargrove standards for deliverables, studies, estimates, change notices, and proposals.
  • Establishing design criteria for projects, incorporating client requirements and applicable standards/codes.
  • Ensuring permitting requirements are established and communicated to the project team.
  • Supporting the development of process engineering standards, specifications, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Understanding project scope and deliverables.
  • Initiating timely project change notices for scope deviations affecting schedule, deliverables, or cost.
  • Planning and organizing the work of project teams for large capital projects and multiple smaller projects.
  • Clearly communicating project plans to the team, leadership, and clients.
  • Maintaining control of projects by tracking performance budget, schedule commitments, and quality standards.
  • Utilizing project control tools for project management.
  • Delegating work to engineers and designers based on their skills and experience, and ensuring efficient progress and quality.
  • Consulting with design leaders from other disciplines for inter-disciplinary alignment.
  • Producing preliminary designs suitable for the level of estimate being performed on major capital projects.
  • Developing conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine optimal engineering solutions.
  • Utilizing industry and department standards, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Producing detailed design calculations and drawings, ensuring they are organized for efficient checking.
  • Efficiently utilizing drafters/designers for drawing development.
  • Producing optimal and efficient project designs with an emphasis on ease of construction, operability, and maintenance.
  • Ensuring completed designs meet client specifications and expectations.
  • Checking calculations, reports, and studies by other engineers for accuracy and conformance to codes, specifications, and good engineering practices.
  • Producing equipment and construction specifications.
  • Monitoring drawings to ensure conformance to design calculations and specifications.
  • Assisting designers in resolving routine layout and detailing problems.
  • Ensuring sufficient information and details are provided for engineering drawing completion.
  • Reviewing and checking vendor information and other discipline input for process engineering.
  • Developing bid packages for equipment, materials, or services procurement on major capital projects.
  • Participating in professional society meetings for business development and industry updates.
  • Participating in sales activities including pre-bid meetings, client presentations, scope reviews, and proposal development.
  • Traveling as required for client presentations and project-related tasks.
  • Actively mentoring less experienced process engineers.
  • Reviewing resumes, conducting interviews, and completing interview evaluations for process engineering candidates.
  • Identifying and developing work-sharing packages for interoffice execution support.
  • Providing leadership to ensure communication and execution of work within scope, schedule, and budget.
