About The Position

Smurfit Westrock is seeking a Senior Process Control Engineer to maintain the control system infrastructure. This role involves designing or assisting with the design of process control logic, coordinating system implementation, and performing analysis of hardware and software used in the production process. The engineer will be responsible for providing design, implementation, and support for existing and new Process Control systems, including Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s), and custom control applications. Additionally, the role includes system backups, network troubleshooting, computer hardware maintenance, and developing/executing migration plans for legacy controls platforms. The position requires the ability to evaluate processes and equipment operation, plan and manage process improvement projects, and read/understand P&ID’s, loop sheets, and electrical drawings. The engineer will also be expected to adhere to all mill safety rules and actively participate in safety programs.

Requirements

  • B.S. Degree in Chemical or Electrical Engineering preferred, other engineering or computer science degree acceptable with adequate DCS/PLC and HMI application experience.
  • Other technical degrees and/or certificates may be acceptable, depending on skills, knowledge, and experience.
  • Minimum of two years of industrial experience (with degree).
  • OR 10 years plus of industrial experience in PLC and HMI applications (if non-degreed).
  • Ability to communicate in both oral and written form.
  • Skills necessary to perform project scope definitions and manage a wide variety of technical projects.
  • Willingness to be on-call to support production needs.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Self-starter.
  • Excellent communications (written / verbal).

Responsibilities

  • Provide design, implementation, and support for existing and new Process Control systems (DCS, PLC’s, custom control applications).
