As a Senior Principal Software Engineer- Mobile Application Developer, you will be responsible for the design and implementation of the Cardiac Rhythm and Heart Failure (CRHF) mobility platform. Ensures implementation meets the business and system needs. Ensures that all deliverables are compliant with the Quality System. Creates and ensures artifacts exist and are consistent across the development cycle. This position is in Mounds View, MN. within the Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) unit. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, technology, engineering, or math and minimum of 10 years of technical work experience OR advanced degree in science, technology, engineering, or math, with 8 years of technical work experience

Nice To Haves

  • 5 years of mobile development
  • Knowledgeable in native mobile application technologies like Swift, Kotlin, Java and Mobile UI frameworks like Swift UI, JetPack Compose, Android Layouts, etc.,
  • Knowledgeable in cross-platform mobile application technologies like Xamarin, Flutter, etc.,
  • Working knowledge of Mobile Enterprise Application Platforms
  • Hands-on application development experiences with one or more of the following mobile platforms: iOS, Android
  • Proven experience with various mobile services such as Bluetooth Low Energy, Bluetooth Classic, location, messaging, multi-media, etc.
  • MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field with appropriate computer science course work
  • Experience in the design and delivery of cross platform mobile applications either through Web, Hybrid or Native approaches and associated frameworks
  • Experience in setting up devices for CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with mobile app security tools like Arxan for IOS, Finalizer, Guard IT, etc.,
  • Experience with agile development methodology
  • Experience with modern software engineering concepts, the software life cycle, and application software development using a variety of technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex sustaining engineering projects.
  • Utilizes advanced tram leadership skills to effectively communicate, facilitate, and organize project activities to maximize product/process efficiency.
  • Develops and manages project schedules to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Design and develop/invent algorithms that can interact with Medtronic IOT(Internet of Things) implantable devices like Implantable Pulse Generator (IPG), Implantable Cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs), Insertable Cardiac Monitors (ICMs) transfer data wirelessly using Bluetooth Low Energy Protocol
  • Design and develop high quality and highly secure mobile applications, API(Application program interface) and database system using the Medical Software Development Lifecycle processes as per the FDA regulations
  • Design and develop security standards for the mobile applications by following a secure by design principle.
  • Work closely with Systems, Quality, Regulatory and other stakeholders to collaborate effectively and deliver robust solutions.
  • Design and develop mobile applications for Android and IOS smart phones using both native technologies such as Swift, Kotlin and Java and cross platform technologies such as Xamarin and MAUI
  • Responsible for the project development associated to sustaining engineering activities for process improvements, CAPA(Corrective and Preventive Actions) related projects, non-conformances from both Medtronic and FDA Standards, etc.,
  • Build project related schedules and track deliverables.
  • Work closely with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals internally and contract engineers and track project deliverables.
  • Collaborate with Cross functional team members (Domestic and International) and tracks project deliverables.
  • Work with firmware engineers and design the Bluetooth Low Energy GATT(General Attribute Table) table, (GATT Services, GATT Characteristics) interface for Medtronic Implantable Device communication protocols.
  • Conduct research on the BLE(Bluetooth Low Energy), performance under different operating conditions to ensure a robust and reliable interface for transferring data from the BLE device to the mobile phone.
  • Invent new algorithms for power optimization on the mobile phone and implantable device.
  • Calculate the device throughput under various conditions using a Bluetooth protocol Analyzer and optimal key parameters the number of BLE Advertisements, advertisement duration, throughput and connection intervals.
  • Program Medtronic Implantable device or hybrid device simulators using tools like labVIEW programmers, usbWiggler etc.,
  • Conduct research on Mobile application performance for various hardware models, various chipsets on the mobile phone’s CPU (Central Processing Unit), various versions of Bluetooth protocols and generate report on observations.
  • Provide design input to the firmware team.
  • Report observations and bugs identified in the operating systems while performing low level operations to Apple, Google and Microsoft and work on short-term and long-term solutions.
  • User software development tools such as Visual Studio, XCode, Android Studio to design, develop and test software applications.
  • Analyze the mobile application performance using analyzers such as Android Device Monitor, XCode Instruments and Xamarin profiler to understand the performance of the mobile application under different operating conditions such as idle mode, low battery mode, background/foreground behavior, etc.,
  • Work with native mobile technologies like push notifications, background APIs, push notification services such as APNS(Apple Push Notification Service), FCM(Firebase Cloud Messaging), Azure Notification Hub.
  • Architect mobile applications to follow HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) guidelines for protecting Protected Health Information (PHI) and Personal Identifiable Information (PII) on the patient’s phone.
  • Architect mobile application to follow guidelines from GDPR(General Data Protection Regulation) and CCPA (California Consumer Privacy Act) to ensure proper usage of patient information
  • Select best suited ciphers to achieve the required security for data in transit and data at rest without impacting the performance of the Medtronic Implantable
  • Perform network security analysis by verifying network traffic to and from the application by using tools like Charles Proxy, Wireshark and Fiddler
