We are seeking a Senior Principal Materials Scientist to lead the development of innovative materials and joining solutions for next-generation medical technologies. This role offers the opportunity to apply deep expertise in metals, alloys, ceramics, and glass to complex challenges involving dissimilar-material interfaces across implantable medical devices, batteries, capacitors, and feedthroughs. The ideal candidate combines first-principles thinking with hands-on experience in advanced manufacturing processes such as laser welding and bonding, diffusion bonding, brazing, glass-to-metal sealing, and related joining technologies. Success in this role also requires proficiency in advanced modeling and simulation, state-of-the-art surface and interface characterization, and the analysis of R&D and manufacturing data to translate fundamental materials insights into robust, scalable solutions. At Medtronic, we bring bold ideas forward with speed and decisiveness to put patients first in everything we do. In-person exchanges are invaluable to our work. We are working onsite a minimum of 4 days per week as part of our commitment to fostering a culture of professional growth and cross-functional collaboration as we work together to engineer the extraordinary.
