About The Position

We are seeking a Senior Principal Materials Scientist to lead the development of innovative materials and joining solutions for next-generation medical technologies. This role offers the opportunity to apply deep expertise in metals, alloys, ceramics, and glass to complex challenges involving dissimilar-material interfaces across implantable medical devices, batteries, capacitors, and feedthroughs. The ideal candidate combines first-principles thinking with hands-on experience in advanced manufacturing processes such as laser welding and bonding, diffusion bonding, brazing, glass-to-metal sealing, and related joining technologies. Success in this role also requires proficiency in advanced modeling and simulation, state-of-the-art surface and interface characterization, and the analysis of R&D and manufacturing data to translate fundamental materials insights into robust, scalable solutions. Requirements

  • Requires a Baccalaureate degree AND minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, OR Master's degree with a minimum of 8 years relevant experience, OR PhD with 6 years relevant experience
  • For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, Ceramic or Glass Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related field
  • Expertise in materials, interfaces, joining technologies, and the translation of fundamental materials science into manufacturable products is highly valued
  • Certified in Design for Reliability/Design for Six Sigma, statistical data analysis methods, DoEs, and problem solving methodologies
  • Expertise in CAD, FEA, and related modeling/simulation methodologies

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the initiation, design, development, execution, and implementation of scientific research projects
  • Investigate the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions and products
  • Plan and execute laboratory research
  • Maintain substantial knowledge of state-of-the art principles and theories and may contribute to scientific literature and conferences
  • May participate in development of patent applications
  • May coordinate interdepartmental activities and research efforts
