Senior Principal Product Manager, Tools

AutodeskAMER - United States - California - Bay Area - Offsite/Home, CA
$125,000 - $223,850

About The Position

Autodesk's Technical Advisory organization delivers a catalog of productivity tools through its digital consulting platform — utilities, integrations, and analyzers that extend Autodesk core technology and help customers work more effectively. The Senior Product Manager, Tools will own this portfolio end-to-end: what tools are in the catalog, how they evolve, and how customer input shapes the roadmap. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Product Management within Global Delivery & Solutions, you will manage the full lifecycle of tools from field-originated concepts through platform-ready releases. Tools originate from consulting engagements, then go through a development process with our engineering team to meet catalog standards for quality, maintainability, and supportability. You will manage this pipeline and own the decisions about what gets built, enhanced, or retired. A core part of this role is a program where subscribed customers provide input into the tools roadmap through a dedicated feedback portal. You will manage this program, synthesizing customer requirements that are common across the user base and working with engineering to prioritize and deliver enhancements on a rotating release cycle. In the first year, you will establish the tools portfolio strategy, define the program operating rhythm with customers and engineering, and build the cross-functional coordination needed to ensure tools are well-integrated into the broader solutions and services offerings.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in product management with progressive responsibility
  • Experience managing a portfolio of technical products or tools with an active customer feedback and release cycle
  • Experience working with geographically distributed engineering teams
  • Strong prioritization skills with ability to balance customer requests, maintenance requirements, and strategic goals across a multi-product portfolio
  • Experience with developer tools, platform extensions, APIs, or technical utilities
  • Familiarity with software release management and product lifecycle practices
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience

Nice To Haves

  • Has managed a tools, utilities, or extensions portfolio where products originate from the field or from power users and need to be standardized for broad distribution
  • Has experience running structured customer feedback programs and translating input into product roadmap decisions
  • Has familiarity with architecture, engineering, construction, operations (AECO), manufacturing, or media and entertainment industries
  • Understands the economics of tool maintenance — API deprecations, version compatibility, and the cost of keeping a growing catalog current
  • Has worked with engineering teams in India and Poland and is comfortable with the communication and planning rhythms that distributed development requires
  • Brings a portfolio management mindset — comfortable making trade-offs across many products rather than going deep on one

Responsibilities

  • Own the tools catalog strategy: which tools are included, how they're categorized, and how the portfolio evolves over time
  • Manage the pipeline of field-originated tools through the development process that prepares them for platform inclusion — defining quality, maintainability, and supportability standards
  • Make prioritization decisions across new tool development, enhancements to existing tools, and maintenance driven by Autodesk API changes and design tool version updates
  • Define and manage the release cycle, supporting up to two releases per tool per year on a rotating schedule as the catalog grows
  • Track portfolio health metrics: catalog size, tool usage, customer satisfaction, and maintenance burden
  • Own and operate the program — the structured process through which subscribed customers provide input into the tools roadmap
  • Manage the customer feedback portal, synthesizing individual requests into common requirements that benefit the broader user base
  • Translate customer input into prioritized engineering requirements, balancing customer-requested enhancements with maintenance needs and strategic portfolio goals
  • Communicate roadmap decisions and release plans back to customers, maintaining transparency about what's being built and why
  • Work closely with the engineering team, primarily based in India and Poland, to plan and execute tool development and releases
  • Partner with Solution Product Managers to identify how tools fit into their solutions and ensure alignment between tool capabilities and solution requirements
  • Partner with the Services Product Managers to identify tool-specific service opportunities and how tools integrate into catalog services
  • Coordinate with Platform Product Managers on how the tool catalog is presented, discovered, and accessed within the platform
  • Work with the Content & Knowledge team to ensure tools are accompanied by clear guidance on why and how to implement them in customer workflows
