The Mechanical Engineering (ME) organization leads in mechanical hardware design, development, as well as production using state-of the-art tools, processes, technology, and Six Sigma principles. ME’s capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, manufacturing, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test, and documentation. The Shipboard Effectors Department is currently searching for an experienced Senior Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to work on a multi-discipline team in support of the production of Shipboard Effectors products and subsystems Huntsville, AL. This position requires a strong, dynamic leader to serve as an Engineering Tech Lead supporting the Shipboard Effectors department. This leader will partner with OCE to ensure ‘technical conscience of the missile’ in Program/Customer engagement providing sound rationale, striving for root cause and corrective action in problem solving. Candidate will work closely with Integrated Product Team Leads/Program Managers to ensure that engineering requirements are defined, risks are managed, and schedules/budgets are met. Decisions must be data driven in nature and require preparing technical justification analysis reports as well as presenting to a variety of Engineering Review Boards. Experience with hardware integration and test, root cause and corrective action and failure investigation principles are strongly desired.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
  • Experience with Project Management as technical leader of large teams of engineers
  • Extensive experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ANSI Y14.5
  • Travel to suppliers and other Raytheon facilities as needed
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

  • Twelve (12) years of directly related work experience in mechanical design and/or production support
  • Mechanical aptitude to provide solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity
  • Strong technical background with high technical aptitude
  • Strong leadership skills and project management experience

  • Ability to work in teams or independently, flexible, demonstrates initiative
  • Willingness to support tasks as experience allows relative to both design development and production support
  • Proficient in Creo (modeling and drawing) and Windchill (PDM)
  • Ability to travel to government and other facilities in support of program activities.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point & Project)
  • Demonstrated ability in technical leadership and execution (e.g. CE or PM)
  • Active DoD issued security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and manage product vision, strategy, and goals to align with multiple contracts and facilitate production line conflict resolution with respect to schedule and capacity
  • Lead a team of multi-disciplined engineers in support of hardware production, test, and delivery of missile sub-sections and/or All Up Round
  • Ensure technical integrity and engineering execution across the IPTs and other functions to meet cost, schedule, and technical requirements
  • Drive positive change within the production environment as a key stakeholder in Failure Review Boards, FRACAS activities, obsolescence resolution, and other continuous improvement efforts
