Our team solves tough, meaningful problems that create a safer, more secure world. The Energetics and Propulsion Department is an engineering organization in the Hardware Engineering Directorate. They are looking for a Senior Principal Engineer – Electrical Fuze & Initiation Systems. This Department is responsible for the full spectrum of warhead, fuzing, and propulsion designs/technology, including power systems, ignition, and all other weapon initiation safety systems technology. The department is seeking to hire a Senior Principal Engineer – Fuze & Initiation Systems. The Senior Principal Engineer – Electrical Fuze & Initiation Systems role is in Tucson, AZ and is an onsite position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and 10 years of prior relevant experience OR an Advanced degree and 7 years of relevant experience
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in fuzing / one shots / engineering technology and/or engineering design
  • Experience with fuzing devices design, manufacturing, testing, safety certification and/or compliance
  • Project Management as applied to team interaction and deliverables
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced STEM degree
  • Twelve (12) or more years of directly related experience in fuzing devices and their applications
  • Systems knowledge to assure full development of fuzing device requirements and dissemination and flow down to subcomponent levels
  • Ability to perform fuzing trade studies evaluating different electrical designs and estimate design and production cost and schedule
  • Experience with safety devices design, manufacturing, testing, safety certification and/or compliance
  • Experience performing electrical stress analysis, electrical thermal analysis, environment survivability assessment
  • Ability to analyze analog, digital, mixed signal and power conversion circuits using simulation and computational skills
  • Experience in developing fuzing, safe & arm products that meet MIL-STD-1316, MIL-STD-1901, and MIL-STD-464
  • Working knowledge of JOTP-051, 052, 053
  • Experience with energetic and pyrotechnic initiators, exploding foil deflagrating initiators (EFDI), and Low energy exploding foil initiators (LEEFI) and their operation
  • Technical writing skills in the area of detailed design requirements, test requirements, statements of work, white paper and technical presentations
  • Project engineering skills and experience using Earned Value Management System
  • Willingness to travel, including international, to provide supplier support
  • Supplier collaboration experience and oversight generating specifications and statements of work (SOW)
  • Working knowledge or experience with either missile design or development, production support and integration
  • Advocate for process improvement (e.g., CMMI, R6s, etc.), team builder, and ability to build strong relationships and effectively partner with internal and external resources
  • Active Secret or Top Secret Clearance (Department of Defense)

Responsibilities

  • Apply or develop highly advanced technologies, scientific principles, theories, and concepts to the systems integration of fuzing devices, controllers, software, mechanical and electrical interfaces for integration into missile systems and space vehicles
  • Involvement with both development and production programs across Raytheon product lines
  • Review manufacturing processes and problem resolution as well as working directly with subcontractors on the design and manufacturing of fuzing devices
  • Work in a collaborative environment with program management in long-range program planning concerning new or projected areas of technological research and advancements and be a key spokesperson on program’s technical capabilities and future directions
  • Manage fuzing device development projects and propulsion subcontracts; review and disposition subcontract data and change requests; and oversee supplier operations
  • Provide frontline lead activities and mentor engineers who develop fuzing devices
  • Develop and deliver technical presentations to management and government agencies
  • Frequently interface with the Customer to identify user needs
  • Be instrumental in obtaining new company business and act independently to uncover and resolve issues associated with the development and implementation of operational missile programs
  • Will travel extensively to government and subcontractor facilities
