About The Position

The Raytheon Electronic Warfare - Electrical and Electronics Engineering team in Goleta, California has an immediate opening for a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer to design and develop Electronic Warfare (EW) electronics products for defense applications. This role involves leading the design and development of airborne electronic products while meeting attendant size, weight, power, reliability, and cost requirements. The engineer will communicate with executive leadership regarding matters of significant importance to the organization and may conduct briefings with senior leaders. The position requires working in an environment where problems and issues faced are numerous and typically undefined, and information is difficult to obtain. The role involves working with a broad range of mixed-signal circuits including but not limited to Power, Analog, Digital, FPGA, SoC and SubSystems. Support for radar Warning Receivers (RWR) and other Electronic Warfare (EW) products requires working familiarity with Radio Frequency (RF) circuitry and system interfaces. The engineer will support multiple programs concurrently and will be responsible for generating requirements documentation, design artifacts, verification and test plans, trade studies, failure root cause and corrective actions, presentations, and other documentation. Technical leadership will be utilized as part of a cross-disciplinary product development team collaborating with electrical, mechanical, and systems engineers. Participation in the creation of proposals for both Cost and Technical Volumes is also expected. Occasional business travel may be required.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience or an advanced degree in a related field and minimum 7 years’ experience.
  • Experience with modern electronic system design, including high-performance FPGAs, Flash and DDR memory interfaces, Analog-to-Digital (A/D) and Digital-to-Analog (D/A) conversion, DC/DC and AC/DC power conversion, and overall mixed-signal circuit analysis.
  • Experience with all the following and deep knowledge in at least one of the following: Schematic capture, PCB layout support, signal integrity analysis, and validation of FPGA-based digital and mixed-signal systems, including power conversion and power delivery network design.
  • Electronic design and simulation tools such as Mentor Xpedition (or equivalent schematic/layout platforms), SPICE-based simulators, MATLAB, and HyperLynx SI for high-speed signal integrity analysis.
  • Experience developing system-level block diagrams and defining hardware architectures, including creation and management of detailed bills of materials (BOMs) for complex electronic assemblies.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • Active and existing security clearance required after day 1.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing FPGA-based circuitry and JTAG programming of FPGA devices.
  • Electrical design and analysis with Mentor Graphics XPedition and HyperLynx SI, SPICE.
  • Experience with design of CCAs with FPGAs, flash memory, DDR RAM, ADCs, DACs, power conversion integrated circuits, and supporting analog circuits.
  • Experience with RF components or specifications and creating POL supplies for RF circuitry.
  • Experience with mentoring others.
