About The Position

Choate Construction is seeking a Senior Preconstruction Manager to provide strategic leadership and guidance during the preconstruction phase, positioning projects for success before field work begins. The role is intended for a highly experienced construction professional who can manage very large, complex, specialized, and/or multiple concurrent projects.

The Senior Preconstruction Manager leads, mentors, and directs the preconstruction team across contracting, scheduling, estimating, and bidding activities. The role coordinates closely with the Operations Manager and Division Manager on team assignments and project strategy, and balances risk, cost, and constructability to deliver accurate, competitive, and executable project outcomes.

The position also represents Choate Construction in client and designer relationships, contributes to business development, and guides project pursuits and bid strategy in support of the company's financial and strategic goals. Requirements

• 15 or more years of overall construction experience.
• At least 10 years in a preconstruction leadership or estimating capacity.
• Ability to manage very large, complex, specialized, and/or multiple concurrent projects.
• Strong leadership, delegation, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to balance risk, cost, and constructability.
• Strong communication and client-advocacy skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and guidance throughout the preconstruction phase.
• Manage very large, complex, specialized, and/or multiple concurrent projects.
• Lead, mentor, direct, and delegate to the preconstruction team across contracting, scheduling, estimating, and bidding activities.
• Coordinate with the Operations Manager and Division Manager on team assignments and project strategy.
• Build and maintain long-term relationships with clients and designers, representing Choate Construction professionally and with credibility and integrity.
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, and subcontractors to foster positive team dynamics and position Choate as a preferred builder.
• Identify risks early, ensure estimates are accurate, and confirm contract requirements are understood and addressed.
• Lead the development of detailed estimates, cost models, and bid strategies that balance competitiveness, constructability, and project success.
• Participate in business development by identifying opportunities, contributing to presentations, and strengthening the client pipeline.
• Guide and develop preconstruction team members and establish clarity and confidence across project pursuits and estimates.
• Lead bid-day strategy, evaluate deal value, and make decisions that support Choate Construction's financial and strategic goals.
