About The Position

Powers & Sons Construction is seeking a Senior Preconstruction Manager to lead our growing preconstruction efforts in the Chicago market. This role is more than estimating. We are looking for a relationship-builder, strategic thinker, and team leader who can help clients navigate complex decisions while leading a growing preconstruction team. The successful candidate will serve as the leader of preconstruction activities in the Chicago market, partnering with clients, architects, engineers, trade partners, and internal teams to deliver thoughtful solutions and exceptional service from project conception through contract execution. Requirements

• 10+ years of construction estimating and preconstruction experience.
• Experience leading preconstruction efforts on commercial construction projects.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to confidently engage with owners, architects, engineers, and trade partners.
• Experience mentoring or leading estimating and preconstruction personnel.
• Strong understanding of conceptual estimating, cost planning, value engineering, and construction delivery methods.
• Ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on involvement when needed.

Nice To Haves

• Experience within one or more of the following sectors: Education, Healthcare, Multifamily, Public and Municipal Projects, Entertainment and Gaming, Corporate Office
• Design-build and negotiated project experience is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead Preconstruction Efforts Across the Chicago Market: Direct all preconstruction and estimating activities for Chicago-area opportunities. Develop conceptual budgets, detailed estimates, GMPs, and value engineering solutions. Guide projects through planning, design, budgeting, and procurement strategy discussions. Provide leadership and direction throughout the pursuit and preconstruction process.
• Build Trusted Client Relationships: Serve as a primary preconstruction resource for clients, design teams, and project stakeholders. Lead budget presentations, cost discussions, constructability reviews, and value engineering workshops. Help clients make informed decisions that support project goals and long-term success. Support business development efforts through relationship building, client meetings, and industry involvement.
• Lead and Develop a Growing Team: Mentor, support, and develop preconstruction professionals within the Chicago market. Foster a collaborative and accountable team environment. Participate in recruiting, hiring, and onboarding efforts as the team continues to grow. Help establish processes and standards that support consistency, quality, and scalability.
• Collaborate Across the Organization: Partner closely with operations, business development, executive leadership, and project teams. Support pursuit strategy and opportunity evaluation. Help ensure a seamless transition from preconstruction to project execution. Contribute ideas and insights that support the continued growth of the Chicago market.
