About The Position

AFRY is a leading international power sector consulting and engineering company with a significant presence in the Asia-Pacific region. As part of our expansion, we are seeking to strengthen our Power Systems Studies team to meet the growing demand for grid connection and transmission studies. This role involves supporting utilities, developers, and investors in integrating generation and transmission projects, including renewables, battery storage, and HVDC. You will be part of a global team working on projects across various regions and contributing to both project execution and technical development.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering (Power Systems or related field).
  • Typically 8+ years of experience in power system studies.
  • Experience in grid connection, transmission planning, or renewable integration projects.
  • Strong experience in load flow, contingency, short-circuit, power quality, voltage stability, and RMS stability studies.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing, tuning, calibrating, and validating dynamic power system models, with the ability to troubleshoot complex modelling issues and deliver technically credible simulations suitable for engineering decision-making.
  • Ability to define study scope and assumptions, structure analyses independently, interpret and challenge results.
  • Ability to critically assess simulation credibility by questioning modelling assumptions, validating results against engineering principles, and distinguishing modelling artefacts from genuine system behaviour.
  • Practical experience with renewable energy integration (solar, wind, BESS), HVDC, or converter-based resources.
  • Strong understanding of transmission planning criteria, grid codes, and power system operating principles.
  • Advanced hands-on experience with PSS®E and/or DIgSILENT Power Factory, including large-scale network modelling, automation workflows, and dynamic model implementation.
  • Ability to work with large-scale network models.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within international teams.
  • Ability to work effectively under tight project deadlines while maintaining high technical quality across multiple concurrent assignments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to present complex technical concepts clearly to clients and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Candidates must already have the legal right to work in the selected country.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to both utility/TSO and developer-driven projects is an advantage.
  • Experience in task leadership, study coordination, and mentoring junior engineers is an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Perform steady-state and dynamic power system studies, including load flow, contingency, short-circuit, RMS stability, voltage stability, and reactive power assessments.
  • Develop and maintain network models using PSS®E and/or DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
  • Define study assumptions, scenarios, and contingencies.
  • Interpret study results, identify network constraints and stability risks, and develop technically justified mitigation measures.
  • Conduct complex technical assessments and develop specialist solutions for power system challenges, including generator and converter model validation, dynamic model tuning, stability enhancement strategies, and mitigation of network constraints.
  • Investigate model convergence, initialization, and dynamic performance issues, identify root causes, and implement robust technical solutions.
  • Contribute to grid connection studies for solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems (BESS), HVDC, and other converter-based technologies.
  • Assess system impacts of inverter-based resources and propose mitigation measures.
  • Lead the technical execution of studies from project initiation through final reporting with a high degree of independence and accountability.
  • Coordinate with internal teams for inputs, modelling, and validation.
  • Review and validate work from junior engineers where required.
  • Lead selected study tasks and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to identifying problems, proposing practical solutions, testing them, and driving their implementation through to resolution.
  • Exercise sound engineering judgement by critically reviewing modelling assumptions, challenging simulation results where appropriate, and ensuring technical quality and consistency throughout the study.
  • Prepare clear and structured technical reports and deliverables.
  • Present results and conclusions to internal teams and clients.
  • Support technical discussions with clients when required.
  • Contribute to internal knowledge sharing and technical improvement.
  • Stay updated on developments in grid integration and power system analysis.
  • Support the development and adoption of internal tools, automation scripts, and AI-assisted workflows to improve engineering efficiency and study quality.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary package
  • Well-balanced working hour
  • Career opportunity in one of the largest international consulting and engineering companies
  • Possibility to grow professionally and advance in career
