Senior Power Systems Engineer

Relativity Space•Cape Canaveral, FL
•$130,000 - $194,000•Onsite

About The Position

Relativity Space is building rockets to serve today’s needs and tomorrow’s breakthroughs. The Terran R vehicle will deliver customer payloads to orbit, meeting the growing demand for launch capacity. Joining Relativity means becoming part of something where autonomy, ownership, and impact exist at every level. You will be solving problems that haven’t been solved before, helping develop a rocket, a factory, and a business from the ground up. The Launch team operates at the intersection of every major aspect of Terran R, from stages and payloads to ground systems, launch, landing, and refurbishment. This is where first flights happen, where history is built on top of history, and where the scale of what's underway is unlike anything in modern aerospace. The mission stays the same, but the work evolves with every milestone: from first launch to reuse, high-cadence operations, and beyond. If you're looking to define what's next in space launch and write a new playbook, not just repeat what’s already been done, this is where it happens.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field and 6+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience.
  • Experience independently developing and delivering electrical system designs using engineering first principles, including requirements development, analysis, troubleshooting, and technical decision-making.
  • Experience with aerospace, utility, or industrial electrical systems involving power generation, distribution, redundancy, protection, controls, or other high-power applications.
  • Experience owning electrical projects through multiple phases of the project lifecycle, such as design, procurement, construction, commissioning, or operations.
  • Experience reviewing technical designs, resolving complex engineering issues, and providing technical guidance to engineers, contractors, or cross-functional project teams.
  • Ability to communicate technical decisions, risks, and recommendations clearly to stakeholders across engineering, operations, construction, and management.
  • Successful candidates must clear a background check administered by the US government to obtain clearance for on-site work at our government partner location in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the orbital launch industry or hands-on experience with aviation or rocket ground power systems.
  • Experience designing or commissioning medium- to high-power electrical systems for utility, industrial, aerospace, or mission-critical facilities.
  • Experience applying NFPA, military, NASA, or similar regulatory and technical requirements to electrical system design.
  • Familiarity with crane, elevator, or similar equipment involving integrated control and power systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical project design and development of construction drawings for launch and processing facility projects, applying engineering judgment from early requirements through installation and commissioning.
  • Design and provide technical direction for electrical systems across voltage levels ranging from 22.5 kV to 120 V, including power generation, distribution, protection, controls, and sequencing systems.
  • Own electrical system requirements, design analyses, equipment selection, and technical reviews while identifying and resolving complex integration, reliability, and operational challenges.
  • Develop and review construction drawings, requests for proposals, bid packages, technical specifications, and bid evaluations, and provide technical oversight of subcontractors throughout project execution.
  • Lead electrical installation, startup, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities in collaboration with construction, operations, and cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Partner with management and engineering stakeholders to establish technical approaches, improve design standards, and support the development of future Relativity Space launch and processing facilities.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and equity
  • Generous PTO and sick leave policy
