Senior Power Electronics Engineer

VoltifyJacksonville, FL

About The Position

Voltify is developing the next generation of battery locomotives that fast charge autonomously and dynamically through a dedicated self-sustained microgrid network. We are bringing back the power to the industry and eliminating the dependency on fossil fuels, aiming to lower the rail industry's main expense - energy - by more than 20%. We are already collaborating with major global rail companies, have over $50M in contingent orders, and have secured over $30M in funding from top-tier investors. Our founding team has a proven history of building billion-dollar public companies in renewable energy and infrastructure. We are seeking a highly experienced and dynamic Power Electronics Engineer to lead the design and development of advanced high-power systems. The initial focus will be on systems operating at voltages up to 1500VDC, with the strategic goal of developing converters and inverters for voltages up to 3kV in the future. This role entails full technical ownership of the company’s power electronics products, from concept through development, validation, and deployment. We are looking for an individual who can move fast, take ownership, and drive results in a high-paced, high-impact environment. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise combined with leadership capabilities, driving innovation and execution in high-power DC-DC converters, inverters, and current-carrying structures (busbars) for electrified transportation and energy systems.

  • B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering (M.Sc. – advantage)
  • 7+ years of experience in power electronics design
  • Proven experience leading development of power electronics products
  • Strong experience with high-voltage systems (≥800VDC, preferably up to 1500VDC)
  • Hands-on experience with high-power analogue/power circuits AND digital/control electronics
  • Deep understanding of power electronics topologies, thermal design considerations and cooling methods and EMI/EMC design principles
  • Experience with communication protocols relevant to high-power systems, e.g., CAN Bus, Ethernet, and other industrial/automotive interfaces
  • Experience with simulation tools such as LTspice, PSpice, MATLAB, or equivalent.
  • Strong familiarity with international standards and safety requirements (IEC, UL, etc.)
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary development environments
  • Ability to move fast, take initiative, and deliver results under tight deadlines

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with automotive/ rail standards (e.g., ISO, LV standards, functional safety)
  • Experience with SiC-based power electronics
  • Experience with product lifecycle ownership (from concept to production)
  • Experience working with global suppliers and subcontractors

Responsibilities

  • Take full ownership of the company’s power electronics products, from concept to development, testing, integration, and production
  • Design and develop high-voltage systems (initially up to 1500VDC, with a future goal of up to 3kV)
  • Design both Power and Control boards, including high-power analogue circuits and digital/control electronics
  • Lead the design of DC-DC converters, inverters, and copper busbars
  • Design and supervise the layout of both Power and Control boards, including high-power analogue circuits and digital/control electronics
