About The Position

The Senior BI Developer transforms raw data into actionable business insights for the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA). The role leads the design, development, and deployment of end-to-end business intelligence solutions, using expertise in data modeling, DAX, and Power Query. This is a temporary six-month position. The developer manages the reporting lifecycle from requirements gathering through visualization; cleans, transforms, models, and integrates data; and develops advanced calculations and automated workflows. The role also validates reporting accuracy, establishes reporting and visualization standards, analyzes datasets to identify trends and deliver insights, supports self-service analytics, and develops Python-based machine-learning models and workflows for predictive and operational uses. The position requires an active Secret security clearance and U.S. citizenship. The projected annualized compensation range is $150,000 to $175,000, with compensation determined by multiple factors including qualifications, experience, contract affordability, organizational requirements, and position location.

Requirements

Expert-level proficiency building end-to-end Power BI reports and interactive visualizations.
Advanced proficiency writing complex DAX and M-Query formulas, measures, and calculated columns.
Proven ability to structure and link data efficiently for optimal report performance.
Mastery of advanced Excel formulas and functions for data analysis and validation.
Expertise creating, managing, and extracting data from SharePoint environments and lists.
Strong ability to analyze raw data and synthesize trends, outliers, and actionable business intelligence.
Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to data integrity and consistency between dashboards and source systems.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
At least 10 years of Federal Government experience as military, civilian, or contractor.
Extensive experience in data cleaning, shaping, and transformation using Power Query.
Experience working with and briefing senior-level DoD personnel.
Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Experience working in a time-sensitive environment with a high level of accountability.
Must possess an active Secret security clearance.
Must be a U.S. citizen.
Ability to perform repetitive motions with the hands, wrists, and fingers.
Ability to engage in and follow audible communications in emergency situations.
Ability to sit for prolonged periods at a desk and work on a computer.

Nice To Haves

Working knowledge of Power Automate for automating data pipeline refreshes and notification triggers.
Experience with programming languages such as Python, with a focus on Pandas and TensorFlow libraries to assist with NLP.
PL-300 or DA-100 certification.
Experience in Federal Government acquisition, financial management, and/or audit readiness.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards from business requirements gathering through final visualization.
Use Power Query to clean and transform complex structured and unstructured data into structured models while ensuring data quality, consistency, governance, and security.
Develop and maintain data models and ETL/ELT processes that integrate multiple data sources and support accurate, efficient reporting.
Write and maintain complex DAX and M-Query formulas, calculated columns, and measures.
Manage and automate data collection, transformation, validation, extraction, and integration, with a focus on Microsoft Platform Solutions.
Implement Power Automate workflows to schedule data refreshes and trigger alerts or notifications.
Validate data and dashboard metrics against source files; establish reporting standards, KPIs, and data visualization best practices.
Analyze raw datasets to identify trends and outliers and deliver actionable insights to business stakeholders.
Enhance adoption of self-service analytics throughout the organization.
Develop Python-based models for predictive analytics, forecasting, classification, and operational optimization, and build and deploy machine-learning workflows using appropriate libraries.
