About The Position

OpenMined is seeking a Senior Policy Manager to lead its US policy work. The role advances the nonprofit’s mission to build infrastructure that enables AI to be overseen and developed in public, including tools for privacy- and IP-protected examination of AI systems and ways to combine models and data without control by a single company. The manager will translate this technical work for US policymakers and help establish OpenMined as a trusted technology-policy voice in Washington. The role reports to the Director of Research & Policy and works closely with the Executive Director. The position is based in Washington, DC. OpenMined is a remote organization, and the employee will work from home, but regular in-person meetings with policymakers, agency staff, and partners require being in the city. The role involves travel roughly once a month on average, mostly domestic, with some international travel. The Senior Policy Manager will lead policy strategy and education, collaborate across technical and partnerships teams, coordinate with global policy colleagues, and produce public-facing policy work. Compensation is $176,635–$205,279 per year, with actual offers based on skills, experience, and location.

Requirements

  • Experience in government service, including fellowships.
  • Proven track record of successful policy advocacy and stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience translating between technical and policy communities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Deep commitment to privacy, open source, and countering concentrations of power.
  • Self-directed, entrepreneurial approach to policy work, creating opportunities rather than waiting for them.
  • Willingness to travel roughly once a month on average, with most travel domestic and some international.

  • Staff the Executive Director for principal-level meetings, briefings, and roundtables.
  • Identify critical policy windows and proactively track developments in Washington.
