Position Summary The Senior Platforms Engineer for the Refining IT Edge team is responsible for designing, evolving, and governing secure, scalable hybrid and multi-cloud platforms that align infrastructure capabilities with enterprise business needs. This role emphasizes deep expertise in cloud architecture and platform engineering, with a strong focus on automation through Infrastructure as Code, Continuous Integration (CI)/ Continuous Delivery (CD) practices, and policy-driven infrastructure to ensure consistency, speed, and reliability across diverse environments. The successful candidate will demonstrate strategic leadership, driving Refining IT infrastructure modernization and balancing technical, operational, and business priorities. They are expected to lead cross-functional programs and vendor partnerships, aligning technology initiatives with overarching business goals while fostering innovation and measurable outcomes. Essential skills include enterprise platform architecture and engineering, spanning data centers, cloud, containers, and edge technologies. The role also requires the ability to integrate data, systems, and emerging capabilities such as IoT and drone platforms. Establishing automated, resilient, and observable platforms with robust backup, recovery, and cybersecurity practices is crucial to maintain high availability, performance, and operational integrity. This position is ideal for a hands-on leader who excels at building reusable frameworks and pipelines, operates effectively in regulated or complex environments, and has a proven track record of driving measurable outcomes in cost optimization, reliability improvements, or deployment velocity gains. Strong influence across teams, architecture governance, stakeholder alignment, and mentoring engineers are vital for success in this role. This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency, and skill level. Actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, related field or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant platforms engineer experience required.
  • Experience required in managing and supporting server infrastructure including Windows Server, Linux, VMware, Hyper-V/Nutanix, and storage systems.
  • Experience required for developing and executing plans to refresh end-of-life infrastructure hardware, including determining resource requirements, cost projections, migration methodology, and rightsizing processes.
  • Experience racking infrastructure hardware such as Dell, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), or others required.
  • Cloud Infrastructure Management – Setting up, configuring, monitoring, and optimizing the components of cloud infrastructure.
  • Computer Networking – A system in which multiple computers are connected to each other to share information and resources.
  • Cybersecurity Risk Management – The process of developing cyber risk assessment and treatment techniques that can effectively pre-empt and identify significant security loopholes and weaknesses, demonstrating the business risks associated with these loopholes and providing risk treatment and prioritization strategies to effectively address the cyber-related risks, threats and vulnerabilities, ensuring appropriate levels of protection, confidentiality, integrity and privacy in alignment with the security framework.
  • DevSecOps – A set of practices that automates the integration of security at every phase of the software development lifecycle, from initial design through integration, testing, deployment, and software delivery, with an aim towards shortening the systems development life cycle and pas well as continuous delivery and a security first approach.

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, related field or equivalent experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience architecting and designing integrations with Cloud based systems such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, or others preferred.
  • Experience preferred in backup and recovery strategies and systems such as Rubrik to include familiarity with backup architecture and lead disaster recovery or business continuity exercises.
  • Proven ownership of large-scale initiatives preferred (e.g., enterprise cloud migrations, data center transformations, or hybrid cloud implementations).
  • Hands-on leadership preferred in automation and platform standardization, not just oversight—has built reusable frameworks and pipelines.
  • Experience operating in regulated or complex environments preferred (security, compliance, uptime requirements).
  • Demonstrated influence across teams, including architecture governance, stakeholder alignment, and mentoring engineers preferred.
  • Track record of driving measurable outcomes preferred, such as cost optimization, reliability improvements, or deployment velocity gains.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and evolves secure, scalable hybrid and multi-cloud platforms that align infrastructure capabilities with enterprise business needs.
  • Builds and scales automated, policy-driven infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD practices to ensure consistency, speed, and reliability across environments.
  • Leads infrastructure strategy by driving modernization, influencing stakeholders, and balancing technical, operational, and business priorities.
  • Designs and governs scalable, secure infrastructure across data centers, cloud (including Azure), containers, and edge technologies, integrating data, systems, and emerging capabilities such as IoT and drone platforms.
  • Leads cross-functional programs and vendor partnerships, aligning technology initiatives with business goals while driving end-to-end ownership, innovation, and measurable outcomes.
  • Establishes automated, resilient, and observable platforms with strong backup, recovery, and cybersecurity practices to ensure high availability, performance, and operational integrity.
  • Identifies performance bottlenecks, conducts root cause analysis, and proposes and implements solutions to enhance platform & system performance and resource utilization.
  • Establishes performance benchmarks, conducts capacity planning, and collaborates with other teams, including junior engineers and cross functional teams to optimize infrastructure performance and activities.
  • Contributes to the development and improvement of troubleshooting procedures, measures to minimize platform & system downtime, and documentation.
  • Partners with vendor technical support to drive for resolution.
  • Leads and manages platform & system technical support activities and troubleshooting efforts, including handling escalated and complex issues.
  • Performs advanced system tuning and optimization to maximize performance using IT Service Management practices.
  • Collaborates with internal teams to enhance support processes and methodologies.
  • Participates in future platform & system backup planning.
  • Leads the design of disaster/system recovery and testing.
  • Analyzes performance and utilization data to identify trends and patterns; provides recommendations for optimization and improvement; prepares comprehensive reports on infrastructure performance; and implements corrective actions to drive continuous system improvements
  • Leads the design and configuration of complex platforms & systems, considering best practices and industry standards.
  • Leads ongoing compliance with original design and configuration and corrects for deviation from standards.
  • Builds and deploys highly available and scalable infrastructure solutions.
  • Leads the creation and maintenance of a comprehensive knowledge base for platforms & systems, including troubleshooting guides, configuration documentation, and best practices.
  • Promotes knowledge sharing culture by organizing training sessions, mentoring junior engineers, and encouraging cross-team collaboration.
