About The Position

The Senior Platform Engineer will join Global Payments’ Enterprise Data Platform Engineering Team to help build the next-generation Operational Data Store (ODS). The platform supports real-time payment experiences, fraud prevention, authorization enrichment, and merchant servicing at scale. The role contributes to technology strategy and architectural decisions, turning proof-of-concept work into a production-ready platform for millions of business-critical transactions.

Working with engineers, architects, and product teams, the engineer will build resilient, high-performance data solutions that support secure and seamless payment experiences. The role focuses on low-latency access to operational data, platform reliability and scalability, self-service capabilities, technical standards, observability, resiliency, and recovery.

Requirements

• Proven experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems in production, with a focus on reliability, scalability, and performance.
• Hands-on expertise with distributed NoSQL databases and data-serving platforms, including data modeling, indexing strategies, and low-latency access patterns.
• Strong experience with Apache Kafka and event-driven architectures, including streaming data pipelines, schema management, and operational troubleshooting.
• Demonstrated success automating infrastructure and operational processes using Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD, and cloud-native technologies.
• Ability to collaborate, take ownership, influence technical decisions, solve complex challenges, document solutions clearly, and drive outcomes across teams.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in payments, fintech, or other regulated industries where reliability, security, and compliance are critical.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Apache Iceberg, or modern lakehouse architectures.
• Experience contributing to open-source data infrastructure projects or building managed database and streaming platform solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver core platform capabilities for low-latency access to operational data supporting enterprise business and client experiences.
• Optimize read-path latency, scalability, and resiliency to meet availability and throughput objectives.
• Automate tenant provisioning, governance controls, and operational workflows to enable self-service onboarding and adoption.
• Evaluate technologies, validate solutions under production-scale workloads, and help establish engineering standards for a shared enterprise platform.
• Build observability, resiliency, and recovery capabilities to improve service health, reduce risk, and support platform growth.
• Help shape platform technology strategy and influence architectural decisions.
