Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Plastics Engineering Technology or equivalent is required
  • Knowledge of thermoplastic and thermoset materials
  • Familiar with DFM, Mold Flow and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) required for the development of plastic parts.
  • Must be self-motivated, a strong collaborator, able to think creatively and work with others to find solutions, drive execution, and focus on results.
  • Strong technical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communications skills.
  • Employs “best” solution to problem rather than most evident (considers business impact to other departments as well as technical requirements)
  • Proficient at identifying project/subsystem risks and developing/executing subsequent mitigation plans
  • Capability and willingness to teach and mentor others in plastics design processes and best practices.
  • Passion for growing the technical capabilities of the company.
  • High capability in in Microsoft products including, Excel, Word, Project, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Subject matter expert in 1 or more areas of plastic component design (exterior body panels, interior, chassis/structural components)
  • Understanding of all processes to manufacture plastic components: injection molding, extrusion, compression molding, blow molding, thermoforming, and other common processes used for the manufacturing of products made from polymeric materials.
  • Develop and maintain material and component specifications and qualification plans.
  • Learn and contribute to requirements, risk analysis, DFMEA, DVP&R and specifications, engineering change notices.
  • Employ project management methodologies that ensure a predictable outcome for development goals and responsibilities.
  • Remove roadblocks and accelerate implementation of projects.
  • Support the development of technology roadmaps and strategies
  • Assist in developing test acceptance criteria using reliability and confidence in designs.
  • Develop and drive cross functional team to achieve scheduled milestones for assigned projects.
  • Effectively self-manage large projects or multiple smaller concurrent projects
  • Expert in Problem solving techniques (9-step, 8D, etc.).
  • First point of contact within engineering regarding customer issues.
  • Mentor designers, lab technicians and other team members.
  • Understand and influence regulatory standards that affect your product.
