Lead, oversee and participate in the more complex and difficult work of staff responsible for providing planning services to the City; create, organize and complete a major program and perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility. This role involves leading, planning, training, and reviewing the work of staff involved in planning and development operations. The Senior Planner will plan, direct, and participate in planning activities, policy development, instructional material development, and project management. A key aspect of the role is developing and implementing programs to enhance planning and development initiatives and creating necessary instructional materials. The position also involves training staff on planning methods, procedures, and techniques, and verifying the accuracy and compliance of their work. The Senior Planner will review projects for consistency with policies and regulations, provide analysis and recommendations to officials and stakeholders, and coordinate inter-agency staff on major plans and guidelines. Responsibilities include collecting and analyzing data for reports, ensuring system changes align with strategies, and communicating with decision-makers at various levels. The role also requires responding to public inquiries, resolving complaints, and evaluating service delivery methods for efficiency and effectiveness. When assigned to the Parks and Recreation Department, specific duties include coordinating the development of Park Masterplans, assisting with lease negotiations and database maintenance, participating in public board staffing, providing guidance on Parks and Recreation related plans and policies, and assisting with grants for park development and programs.
