About The Position

U.S. Ski & Snowboard’s Sports Medicine Program is dedicated to optimizing athlete health, rehabilitation, and performance to support success at the highest level of sport. As a Senior Clinical Specialist, this role is responsible for the comprehensive rehabilitation management of elite athletes with acute, chronic, and post-surgical injuries. This position serves as a senior rehabilitation provider and clinical leader within the Sports Medicine Program and provides world-class rehabilitation and return-to-performance services for athletes across all eleven sport disciplines. The Senior Clinical Specialist will evaluate, diagnose, manage, and rehabilitate injuries while coordinating closely with physicians, athletic development coaches, sports science staff, nutrition, mental performance, and sport coaches to optimize athlete outcomes. The ideal candidate is an experienced clinician with exceptional organizational skills, advanced clinical reasoning, and meticulous attention to detail. They thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and are capable of simultaneously managing complex rehabilitation cases while developing individualized return-to-performance plans. This is a Monday through Friday, clinic-based position located within the Center of Excellence in Park City, Utah. The role is focused on full-time athlete care and interdisciplinary collaboration across all sport disciplines and does not require travel.

Requirements

Licensed Physical Therapist eligible for licensure in Utah.
8+ years of experience in sports medicine, outpatient orthopedic rehabilitation, military performance or 5+ years of experience working in elite or professional sports
Current CPR and First Aid certification.
Excellent understanding of orthopedic surgical procedures, surgical techniques, and post-operative rehabilitation protocols.
Exceptional injury evaluation, differential diagnosis, and clinical decision-making skills across a wide spectrum of orthopedic and sports-related injuries.
Extensive experience managing athlete rehabilitation from initial injury through return-to-performance.
Demonstrated expertise in criteria-based progression models following orthopedic and sport-related injuries.
Ability to analyze sport-specific demands and integrate those demands into rehabilitation and return-to-performance planning.
Advanced manual therapy skills with the ability to apply hands-on treatment techniques daily for rehabilitation, performance maintenance, and recovery.
Advanced knowledge of strength and conditioning principles including but not limited to strength qualities, force development, power training, speed development, balancing energy system demands, tendon health, periodization, fatigue identification, and injury risk patters
Strong understanding of tissue healing timelines and the ability to appropriately progress tissue capacity throughout rehabilitation.
Knowledge of bracing options, protective equipment, and adjunct rehabilitation tools commonly utilized in sports medicine and orthopedic populations.
Experience working within a collaborative, interdisciplinary high-performance sports model.
Working knowledge of sports science technologies, wearables, and objective testing methodologies and their application to rehabilitation and return-to-performance decision making.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex rehabilitation cases simultaneously while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
Excellent communication, relationship management, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
High emotional intelligence with the ability to navigate sensitive athlete situations and competitive environments
Ability to demonstrate therapeutic exercises and movement techniques.
Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds using proper body mechanics.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and provide hands-on treatment throughout the workday.
Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced, high-performance training and clinical environment.

Responsibilities

Evaluate, diagnose, and rehabilitate orthopedic and sport-related injuries within the Center of Excellence clinic.
Manage acute, chronic, and post-surgical orthopedic injuries utilizing evidence-based rehabilitation strategies and sport-specific programming.
Develop and implement individualized rehabilitation plans that align with athlete goals, sport demands, and return-to-performance objectives.
Deploy advanced manual therapy techniques, neuromuscular re-education strategies, biomechanical analysis, movement restoration interventions, and athlete-specific assessment methodologies.
Coordinate athlete care with physicians, surgeons, external providers, and high performance staff to optimize rehabilitation outcomes.
Educate athletes throughout the rehabilitation process regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, recovery timelines, performance goals, and objective criteria for progression.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record system.
Adherence to utilizing high performance planning documents and platforms
Lead rehabilitation progression from injury through full return-to-performance in conjunction with the Director of Rehabilitation and the Director of Re-conditioning.
Collaborate with each athlete’s Athletic Development coach to develop and implement individualized rehabilitation and return-to-performance plans.
Utilize objective testing measures and performance benchmarks and criteria to inform progression and athlete readiness decisions.
Integrate principles of movement restoration, biomechanics, strength development, power development, speed development, and load management into rehabilitation programming.
Facilitate interdisciplinary discussions regarding athlete readiness for training, competition, and performance progression.
Monitor athlete response following daily rehabilitation and return to training and adjust programming as necessary.
Assist in the development and refinement of organizational return-to-performance frameworks and best practices.
Serve as a connector between athletic development coaches, performance medical travel staff, physicians, nutrition staff, sport coaches, mental performance staff, sports science, and other members of the high-performance department
Participate in athlete rehab management team meetings and provide timely updates regarding injury status, rehabilitation progress, and athlete readiness.
Manage multiple rehabilitation cases simultaneously across different sports, timelines, and competitive demands.
Foster a collaborative, athlete-centered performance model that prioritizes long-term health, resilience, and competitive success.
Utilize sports science technologies and objective testing tools to support rehabilitation and return-to-performance decision making.
Interpret and apply performance data including force production metrics, asymmetry assessments, jump testing, movement assessments, workload monitoring, and recovery metrics when appropriate.
Collaborate with Athletic Development and Sports Science staff to ensure testing and monitoring align with rehabilitation objectives.
Incorporate evidence-based load management, fatigue monitoring, and recovery strategies into rehabilitation planning.
Assist with the development of injury risk reduction and athlete resilience initiatives.
Serve as a senior clinical resource within the Sports Medicine Department.
Collaborate with other medical staff regarding differential diagnosis, rehabilitation planning, injury case management, and return-to-performance processes on complex cases
Participate in departmental education initiatives, professional development activities, and quality improvement efforts.
Demonstrate leadership, professionalism, and sound clinical judgment in complex athlete care situations.
Contribute to the continued evolution of best practices within U.S. Ski & Snowboard High Performance Department
Maintain knowledge of U.S. Ski & Snowboard medical policies and procedures.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA and athlete medical confidentiality standards.
Maintain familiarity with WADA, USADA, and FIS anti-doping requirements.
Maintain accurate injury tracking, reporting, and athlete status updates.
