Senior Physical Security Designer - Remote

Bernardo Consulting Group LLC*, TX, TX
$100,000 - $130,000Remote

About The Position

Bernardo Consulting Group (BCG) specializes in designing and managing physical security projects for critical infrastructure clients including industry-leading data center facilities across North America. We are recognized for our precision, technical depth, and ability to meet demanding project schedules. Our team includes security subject-matter experts, BIM professionals, project managers, and supporting roles, all working remotely across the U.S. As we continue to grow, we seek individuals who embrace technical challenges and are committed to continuous professional development.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of design/drafting experience producing construction documents, including at least 2 years planning, assigning, or reviewing the work of other drafters.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD - you can still produce the work you are reviewing.
  • Demonstrated ownership of CAD/BIM standards: templates, family libraries, title-blocks, annotation standards, and worksharing conventions.
  • Proven quality-review capability - catching coordination errors, standards deviations, and constructability issues before drawings are issued.
  • Experience managing production across multiple concurrent projects and competing deadlines.
  • Experience with physical security systems including access control, video surveillance, perimeter security, and intrusion detection.
  • Proficiency with BIM360/Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Navisworks, and Bluebeam.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a fully remote team through written direction, virtual review sessions, and clear documentation.
  • Excellent communication, verbal and written
  • U.S. citizenship required; must be eligible for physical security clearance (client requirement).

Nice To Haves

  • Data center or critical infrastructure design production experience.
  • Experience building a drafting function or standards program from an informal state into a documented, repeatable one.
  • Experience developing custom Revit Family content for security hardware and devices.
  • Automation experience (Dynamo, CTC Tools, RF Tools) applied to repetitive production tasks.
  • Experience interfacing with prime A/E firms as a named sub-consultant.
  • Familiarity with BIM Forum LOD Specification, AIA standards, and NBIMS collaboration best practices.
  • Construction observation, field verification, or as-built documentation background.
  • Experience with Procore or comparable construction document management platforms.
  • Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) credential or ASIS Physical Security Professional (PSP) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and assign drafting work across the remote team, balancing workload against project schedules, deliverable milestones, and individual skill levels.
  • Review drawings and models for accuracy, completeness, coordination, and conformance to BCG and client drawing standards before issuance.
  • Own BCG's Revit and CAD standards - template files, family libraries, titleblocks, annotation and layer conventions, and worksharing practices - and keep them current as the environment evolves.
  • Set and maintain production goals, deadlines, and quality standards for the drafting department, and hold the team to them.
  • Produce drawings and models directly on complex, high-priority, or time-critical packages.
  • Mentor drafters through direct review and structured feedback; build technical depth and redundancy so no single project depends on one person.
  • Coordinate with design leads and project managers to translate design intent into clear, production-ready assignments.
  • Analyze project results - schedule performance, rework rates, and drawing quality - and make evidence-based recommendations for process improvement.
  • Administer project platforms (BIM360/ACC/Forma) - model setup, permissions, file structure, and information exchange with client and prime A/E teams.
  • Support hiring and onboarding of new drafters in partnership with HR including skills evaluation, ramp planning, and standards training.
