About The Position

Local Media News Department at TelevisaUnivision Sacramento is looking for a Senior Photographer to join our team! You will work with assignment editors and newsroom managers to cover stories and monitor video content. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic self-starter who loves working with live U, is detail oriented, and enjoys working in a collaborative team environment. You have some experience producing broadcast news.

Requirements

  • A minimum of six years’ experience as a Photojournalist in medium/major market television.
  • BA/BS preferred in Journalism/Mass Communications or equivalent experience
  • The ability to multitask and manage time to put together an exciting and informative newscast
  • Flexibility and on-the-spot problems solving abilities are a must
  • Must be highly proficient both in English and Spanish
  • Must possess high ethical and journalistic standards
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment
  • Detail oriented with ability to work with tight deadlines and juggle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Knowledge of final cut pro, adobe premiere, and file transfer protocols.
  • Self-initiative to stay up to date with new and emerging technologies and methods.
  • You have the ability to work well in a fast-paced deadline driven environment.
  • Experience in a leadership role
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Valid CA Driver’s license with good driving record
  • Ability to work varying shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Able to carry, lift, and handle equipment of 50-pounds or more for prolonged periods of time.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for shooting video and audio for all platforms, editing feeds and live shots.
  • Lead and oversee the daily operations of the news photography team, ensuring strong communication, coordination, and execution in the field.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all technical and equipment-related matters within the news department.
  • Manage and track newsroom photography equipment, including cameras, live units, lighting, audio gear, and accessories, while maintaining organized workflows for equipment distribution and accountability.
  • Develop and implement improved communication systems and operational workflows to increase efficiency among photographers and field crews.
  • Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support to photographers, producers, reporters, and newsroom staff during breaking news and daily coverage.
  • Ensure all photographers follow newsroom standards for video quality, live shots, audio, lighting, and storytelling execution.
  • Coordinate equipment readiness and technical support for special coverage, live events, remote productions, and breaking news situations.
  • Mentor and support photographers by promoting collaboration, professionalism, creativity, and strong field production practices.
  • Work closely with newsroom leadership to identify operational needs, technical improvements, and workflow efficiencies that enhance news gathering.
  • Maintain a proactive approach to problem-solving and serve as a dependable leader during high-pressure and fast-changing news situations.
  • Oversee and maintain the LiveU satellite system on the Jeep to ensure it remains operational and ready for use.
