This position is open to UMC employees only. The Senior Pharmacy Technician will oversee the operation of a specific functionality within the Pharmacy Services Department by acting as lead. This role involves assigning work, monitoring workflow, analyzing statistics, ensuring quality assurance, and providing direction to staff within the parameters of the assigned function. The position also includes scheduling, training, and coordinating other Pharmacy Technicians, as well as performing the functions of a Pharmacy Technician.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from high school.
  • Three (3) years of experience as a pharmacy technician.
  • Valid State of Nevada Certification as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • CPhT Certification.
  • Valid Nevada Driver's license.
  • A minimum of three (3) years inpatient Pharmacy Technician experience.
  • One year in lead role.
  • Knowledge of Federal, state and/or county guidelines, rules and regulations associated with the distribution of medications.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy standards of practice.
  • Knowledge of basics of drug indications and drug interactions.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of trade and generic drug names.
  • Knowledge of basic compounding techniques.
  • Knowledge of aseptic compounding technique.
  • Knowledge of personal and mainframe computers.
  • Knowledge of routes of administration for standard medications.
  • Knowledge of storage requirements for standard medications.
  • Knowledge of department and hospital safety practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of patient rights.
  • Knowledge of age specific patient care practices.
  • Knowledge of infection control policies and practices.
  • Knowledge of handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Knowledge of department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.
  • Skill in coordinating staff schedules to cover work flow.
  • Skill in evaluating quality control.
  • Skill in assigning and monitoring the work of others.
  • Skill in applying basic knowledge of appropriate dosage and frequency for standard medications.
  • Skill in utilizing equipment associated with area of responsibility.
  • Skill in utilizing a computer and specific application software.
  • Skill in performing pharmaceutical calculations.
  • Skill in preparing and maintaining accurate counts and records.
  • Skill in organizing and prioritizing work.
  • Skill in applying aseptic technique to compounding medications.
  • Skill in communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties.
  • Skill in efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.
