About The Position

This position works under the general supervision of the Manager of Operations of Office of Construction Code Enforcement to supervise Permit Technicians who perform responsible clerical work involved in application, review, payment, and issuance of building, electrical, mechanical, and/or plumbing permits, issuance of new and renewal of trade licenses. Pay Grade: 46 Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education

Requirements

  • High school diploma or possess a GED; AND
  • Five (5) years’ experience in construction industry or complex clerical, data processing or statistical experience with 2 of the 5 years in a managerial or administrative capacity; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in any field; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
  • Certification through International Code Council (ICC) as a Permit Technician or obtain same within six (6) months of hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises administrative support staff (Permit Technicians) and assists in administration of policies, procedures, and regulations relating to the operations of the Office of Construction Code Enforcement.
  • Reviews technical work of assigned employees (Permit Technicians) for the issuance of selected building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing permits and certificates of occupancy and various trade licenses as directed.
  • Provides training for new and existing Permit Technicians
  • Coordinates with Manager of Operations, Chief and Senior Inspectors, System Analysts and Accountant relative to permit processing, policies and procedures, workflow procedures, and customer service.
  • Answers complex and technical requests for information relating to permitting requirements and the issuance of various trade licenses.
  • Recommends programs and goals and develops plans for assigned employees with the Manager of Operations.
  • Performs other duties as required or directed.
