About The Position

The Senior Pension & Benefits Consultant provides senior advisory, analytical, and program management expertise to support the design, delivery, governance, and continuous improvement of Metrolinx's pension and benefits programs. The role serves as a subject matter expert on health, dental, life, disability, and pension benefits, ensuring programs remain competitive, compliant, sustainable, and aligned with the needs of a diverse workforce. The position leads projects, provides strategic recommendations, manages vendor relationships, and develops employee education and communication initiatives that enhance understanding and engagement with Total Rewards programs.

Requirements

  • Completion of a relevant degree/diploma in Human Resources Management, Business Administration – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent
  • Demonstrated years’ experience in benefits plan design and costing, pension, wellness initiatives preferably in a large and complex unionized environment; experience partnering with HR Centre’s of Excellence to enable business outcomes
  • Strong knowledge of group benefits, disability programs, pension administration, and related legislation.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including experience with data analysis, financial modelling, and program evaluation.
  • Experience managing vendors and external service providers.
  • Ability to build strong relationships and provide trusted advice to leaders, employees, HR partners, and external stakeholders.

  • CEBS, CHRP, or other related designation is considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design, and continuous improvement of group benefits programs, including health, dental, life, disability, personal and health care spending account programs.
  • Manage relationships with external vendors, consultants, and service providers to ensure high-quality service delivery and cost-effective program outcomes.
  • Monitor program performance, analyze trends, and develop recommendations to enhance employee experience and program sustainability.
  • Act as a trusted resource for employees, leaders, and HR partners on pension and benefits programs.
  • Develop and deliver communications, presentations, information sessions, and educational materials that help employees make informed decisions about their benefits and retirement planning.
  • Partner with OMERS and other providers to support employee awareness and participation in available programs.
  • Translate complex pension and benefits information into practical, easy-to-understand guidance.
  • Interpret policy and program provisions, legislative requirements, and collective agreement language to support consistent application across the organization.
  • Participate in the procurement of third-party service providers. Includes the development of Request for Proposals and other tender processes.
  • Identify opportunities to modernize policies and improve employee experience through process and program enhancements.
  • Support policy development and implementation activities across the Total Rewards portfolio.
  • Support governance and oversight of pension and benefits programs to ensure legislative, regulatory, and policy compliance.
  • Lead audits, reporting, reconciliations, and vendor performance reviews.
  • Analyze workforce, financial, and market data to inform program recommendations and business decisions.
  • Contribute to strategic projects and initiatives that strengthen Metrolinx's Total Rewards programs and employee value proposition.
