About The Position

This role is based remotely but if you live within a 50-mile radius of Warren, Michigan, you are expected to report to that location three times a week, at minimum. As a Senior PBCA/SMT Site Operations Manager, you will be part of developing effective PCBA SMT Hubs supply to support our fast-growing electronics and software needs. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the set-up as well as operating and maintaining Surface Mount Technology (SMT) production equipment to manufacture high‑quality printed circuit board assemblies. This role ensures consistent throughput, adherence to IPC standards, and continuous improvement of the SMT process. Additionally, this individual will be comfortable operating autonomously, solving problems independently, and prioritizing tasks that maximize enterprise value for General Motors and the Global Purchasing and Supply Chain (GPSC) function.

Requirements

  • 5+ years relevant work experience in PCBA SMT Operations

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Purchasing, Supply Chain Management, Finance, related field.
  • Experience with commodities (SMT line operations, PCB and/or PCBAs).
  • Experience with SMT Capacity/Utilization Forecasting.
  • Experience with Supply Chain / Procurement of all Electronic Components associated with SMT operation.
  • Cost analysis or manufacturing experience.
  • Automotive industry experience.
  • Knowledge of Capacity and Materials Management.
  • Capable of drawing conclusions from complex data, market trends and the regulatory environment.
  • Ability to understand basic engineering documents and technical drivers for the applicable commodities.
  • Knowledge of contract law as it applies to the purchasing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the set-up of the SMT equipment including solder paste printers, pick‑and‑place machines, SPI/AOI systems, and reflow ovens.
  • Ensure the SMT line adheres to proper changeovers, feeder loading, reel splicing, and verification of component placement programs.
  • Verify the SMT line meets accurate reflow profiles and ensures thermal processes meet specifications.
  • Conduct in‑process inspections for solder paste deposition, component placement accuracy, and solder joint quality.
  • Ensure all assemblies meet IPC‑A‑610 and J‑STD‑001 workmanship standards.
  • Document defects, rework actions, and quality findings in MES and have these read-across all Hubs.
  • Actively participate in the development of commodity strategies.
  • Collaborate closely with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Adhere to corporate and departmental purchasing and accounting practices and procedures.
  • Sourcing and contracting activities that include, but are not limited to: Sourcing strategy, bid list development & management.
  • Lead sourcing recommendations and alignment with cross-functional teams.
  • Lead supplier relationship management initiatives, including “Strategic Supplier Engagement” and nurture relationship with suppliers by acting as a focal point for commercial issue resolution.
  • Lead or represent the purchasing function in supplier KPI reviews.
  • Represent purchasing and support mitigation of supply chain disruptions.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and identify savings opportunities, advance automation and introduce innovative solutions.
  • Support or lead additional required projects as assigned by management.
  • Promote GM's behaviors values and makes customer-focused decisions.
