About The Position

We’re looking for a friendly, detail-oriented Senior Payroll Specialist to join our team and take the lead on accurate, timely payroll while also supporting a few key HR administrative activities. In this role, you’ll be the go-to person for payroll processing, payroll compliance, employee questions, reporting, and payroll-related records. You’ll also assist HR with onboarding, benefits administration, employee records, and other people-focused tasks. Vogel Bros. Building Co. is a fifth-generation, family-owned commercial construction company with a strong reputation for quality, integrity, and building exceptional projects throughout Wisconsin and Florida.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of payroll experience with responsibility for multi-state payroll.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll tax laws, compliance, and reporting.
  • Experience with HRIS/payroll systems; Acumatica and Paylocity experience is a plus.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive payroll experience, including responsibility for multi-state payroll administration, payroll tax compliance, and payroll process management.
  • Construction industry experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with multi-state payroll processing and HRIS/payroll systems.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Experience in Acumatica and Paylocity a plus.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus.
  • Highly proficient computer and technology skills required, including proficient knowledge and use of Microsoft Office Suite, accounting software, internet browsers, and operating office equipment (copier, printer, fax, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate information one-on-one and/or in small group situations to both internal and external customers
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated understanding of standard accounting principles

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end payroll process for 200+ employees across multiple states.
  • Process weekly and bi-weekly payroll for salaried, union, and non-union employees across multiple states.
  • Ensure payroll tax compliance, garnishments, prevailing wage, and union reporting are accurate and timely.
  • Partner with Accounting and HR to maintain accurate employee records, labor allocations, benefit deductions, and payroll reporting.
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll systems and efficiencies.
