Senior Paralegal

SunbitLos Angeles, CA
$33 - $43Hybrid

About The Position

Sunbit is looking for a highly experienced, exceptionally organized and resourceful Senior Paralegal to join our Legal and Compliance team. This is a substantive, high-responsibility role for a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced fintech environment, takes ownership of complex workstreams, and holds themselves to an uncompromisingly high standard of accuracy and rigor. You will own a number of project areas, including: regulatory licensing and litigation support — executing with minimal oversight while interfacing with sophisticated internal and external stakeholders. This role demands not only deep paralegal expertise but also supreme technical fluency, analytical sharpness, and great attention to detail to work effectively in a data-intensive, regulated industry.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of proven, independent experience handling senior-level paralegal responsibilities, in-house or in the law firm setting.
  • Demonstrated experience with regulatory licensing (state money transmission, lending, or equivalent) strongly preferred.
  • Prior litigation support experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to independently manage multiple projects and priorities is a must.
  • Exceptional organizational discipline: You manage multiple high-stakes workstreams simultaneously without dropping a thread.
  • Razor-sharp attention to detail: You catch errors others miss, and you verify before you submit.
  • Critical thinking: You don't just collect data — you assess it, question it, and surface what matters.
  • Technical proficiency: Comfortable building and maintaining reports, trackers, and dashboards; experience working across multiple databases and data systems.
  • AI fluency: Proven track record in identifying, adopting, and integrating AI tools to improve legal workflows. You stay current and apply these tools judiciously.
  • Communication excellence: Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to engage effectively with sophisticated internal and external stakeholders — including regulators, executives, and outside counsel.
  • Leadership, initiative, and ownership: You lead your workstreams, anticipate needs, and bring solutions rather than problems.

Responsibilities

  • Own the full lifecycle of state and federal licensing, including applications, renewals, and annual reports across all jurisdictions.
  • Stay ahead of filing deadlines by maintaining a rigorous licensing calendar and escalating risks proactively.
  • Partner with Finance, Operations, Product, and Compliance to gather, critically evaluate, and synthesize information needed for accurate regulatory filings.
  • Drive examination and audit readiness by collecting, verifying, and validating the required data before submission.
  • Interface directly with state regulators, external counsel, and licensing agencies with professionalism and precision.
  • Build and maintain regulatory dashboards, filing trackers, and examination-readiness reports using legal tech platforms, workflow automation tools, and internal systems.
  • Analyze basic claims and legal positions and prepare clear, concise summaries for attorneys.
  • Investigate claims to determine their validity.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze documents and data relevant to litigation matters and maintain well-structured case files.
  • Flag gaps and inconsistencies in incoming information before they become problems.
  • Assist with drafting correspondence, discovery responses, chronologies, and other litigation deliverables.
  • Coordinate with outside counsel, vendors, and internal teams to advance litigation efficiently.
  • Support a fast-moving Legal and Compliance team, adapting to shifting priorities with composure.
  • Identify and implement process, template, and workflow improvements.
  • Leverage legal tech platforms and workflow automation tools to drive speed, accuracy, and output quality across all workstreams.
  • Perform a variety of compliance tests
  • Assist with other projects as needed
