About The Position

CACI is seeking a talented Senior Paralegal to support the Department of Justice (DOJ) Environmental and Natural Resources Division (ENRD), focusing on high-profile cases within the Natural Resources Section and 5th Amendment Takings cases. This role involves complex responsibilities and offers opportunities for career growth, including support for Relativity, ACEDS, and Paralegal certifications.

Requirements

  • Paralegal certificate, or JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school with at least one year of study completed, or an equivalent level of legal training or experience.
  • At least two years of litigation paralegal experience or project experience related to the task order.
  • At least one year of experience in automated litigation support.
  • Sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
  • Hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems (Relativity, Acrobat, Excel, JEFS/Box.com, Word, Teams, Power Point, and social media tools).
  • Hands-on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.
  • Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure.
  • Advanced skills with Excel.
  • Professional, can-do, customer-service attitude.
  • Ability to travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Relativity experience.
  • Discovery: Document review for relevance and privilege.
  • Courtroom presentation: Trial Director or OnCue experience.
  • Pre-trial preparation experience (witness lists, expert support (including reports), motions, trial exhibit exchanges, etc.).
  • Trial support experience (willingness to travel when needed, CONUS. Moot session support, transcript review and tracking, in-court attorney support, war room support, overcall case and deadline tracking/reporting, etc.).
  • eDiscovery certifications.
  • Prior experience supporting the Federal Government.
  • Prior experience with motions support, Table of Contents, Table of Authorities, and cite checking/Blue booking.
  • Works well independently and with a team.

Responsibilities

  • Works under the direction of a Project Manager or DOJ Case Attorneys, often developing work products with minimal direct supervision based on written guidelines.
  • Performs moderately complex legal research.
  • Synopsizes transcripts of hearings and oral arguments for attorney use.
  • Reviews case-related materials to identify potentially conflicting statements or areas requiring further investigation.
  • Writes preliminary drafts of legal memoranda and correspondence.
  • Supports Discovery efforts, including using electronic databases for factual research, retrieving and analyzing materials through data searches, and coding substantive case materials.
  • Prepares table of contents and table of authorities for legal briefs.
  • Assists in preparing witness depositions.
  • Reviews and researches citations, footnotes, textual references, and other entries for accuracy.
  • Digests substantive materials or transcripts of testimony.
  • Assists with case development, including discovery projects, as well as pre-trial and trial.
  • Coordinates various litigation support services required by attorneys assigned to a case.
