About The Position

The Senior Packaging Engineer is the subject matter expert responsible for evaluating current and new packaging solutions to ensure they are durable, cost-effective, compliant with applicable regulations, and aligned with sustainability goals. The position develops packaging solutions for purchased and manufactured products, including products made using sophisticated automation equipment and complex robotics. It evaluates product protection against factors such as corrosive chemicals, temperature variations, light, heat, and rough handling, and uses that work to establish packaging requirements. The role enhances existing packaging materials and processes in support of operational priorities—Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Continuous Improvement—and develops new solutions to advance sustainability, innovation, and business growth. It defines and executes formal tests to qualify packaging materials and processes; collaborates with internal teams and external suppliers; and integrates packaging solutions into product launches, manufacturing, and supply-chain processes. The engineer may support prototype line development at manufacturing facilities and leads medium-sized teams or projects with budgets or impacts below $300,000. This position reports to the Senior Manager, Process Development & Design Engineering and requires onsite work at the North American Manufacturing Headquarters in Apple Valley, Minnesota. The role models Uponor values, provides peer leadership through collaboration and influence, and helps align individual performance objectives with functional and business strategy.
