About The Position

Seeking a Senior Property & Casualty Underwriter to join a specialized team. In this role, you will independently qualify and price new and renewal business in alignment with program underwriting guidelines and pricing directives. You will also be responsible for servicing accounts in accordance with established service standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Property & Casualty Underwriter.
  • Must hold or obtain a property-casualty license within three (3) months of hire and maintain it as required.
  • Proven expertise in underwriting large accounts and a thorough understanding of commercial insurance.
  • Strong analytical skills to exercise sound underwriting judgment and decision-making.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage tasks effectively and maintain high-quality work.
  • Effective negotiation, oral, and written communication skills, including presentation abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and handle stressful situations with professionalism.
  • Detail-oriented with strong research skills.
  • Proficiency in IT tools and software applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in insurance, business, or a related field preferred.
  • Preferred experience in underwriting public entities or educational institutions.
  • Professional designations such as AU, CPCU, or ARM are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and underwrite new and renewal submissions, exercising discretion and independent judgment to accept, reject, or modify proposals.
  • Request additional information to qualify submissions and communicate decisions to producers.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with producers, serving as the primary point of contact for assigned regions.
  • Analyze underwriting information, including applications, loss runs, inspections, financial reports, and supplemental applications.
  • Participate in large account reviews and prepare underwriting strategies for complex accounts.
  • Ensure adherence to underwriting authority and service standards.
  • Demonstrate expertise in program forms, endorsements, and rating methodologies.
  • Assist in the development of new and existing products and programs.
  • Ensure accuracy of final policy products and compliance with quality control and state filing requirements.
  • Mentor and train less experienced team members, fostering their professional growth.
  • Provide guidance to Underwriting Assistants and evaluate their performance.
  • Support sales staff by attending agent meetings, conventions, trade shows, and agent visits.
  • Maintain accurate and organized files in accordance with standard procedures.
  • Monitor risk control and claims activities, taking appropriate actions as needed.
  • Stay informed about competitor forms and coverages to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by management.
