About The Position

Boater’s World Marine Centers is seeking an experienced, diagnostic-focused Senior Outboard Marine Technician to join our growing Service Department in Islamorada, FL. We are looking for a technician with 3–5+ years of marine dealership experience who can confidently diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, fuel, cooling, steering, rigging, and performance-related concerns on today’s leading outboard engines. This is not an entry-level or basic maintenance position. The ideal candidate is a skilled problem-solver who understands how to trace an issue to its root cause, use manufacturer diagnostic systems effectively, and complete high-quality repairs with minimal supervision. Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of professional marine technician experience required
  • Strong hands-on diagnostic and troubleshooting experience with outboard engines
  • Ability to independently diagnose complex mechanical and electrical issues
  • Experience servicing and repairing major outboard brands such as Mercury, Yamaha, Suzuki, and Honda
  • Strong understanding of 12-volt electrical systems, charging systems, fuel systems, cooling systems, steering, controls, and marine accessories
  • Experience using OEM diagnostic software, scan tools, multimeters, compression testers, and manufacturer service information
  • Experience performing rigging, repowers, engine installations, and accessory installations
  • Ability to perform sea trials and accurately evaluate engine and vessel performance
  • Strong repair documentation and communication skills
  • Productive, dependable, and capable of managing assigned repairs with minimal supervision
  • Valid driver’s license required

Nice To Haves

  • Current OEM or manufacturer certifications strongly preferred
  • Master Technician or advanced manufacturer certification is highly valued
  • Multi-brand outboard dealership experience
  • MMI graduate or equivalent marine technical education
  • Experience mentoring or supporting developing technicians
  • Familiarity with Lightspeed or a similar dealership management system

Responsibilities

  • Independently diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, fuel, cooling, steering, trim, charging, and performance-related concerns
  • Use OEM diagnostic software, scan tools, service manuals, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer troubleshooting procedures
  • Interpret fault codes, engine history, live data, compression results, and electrical readings to identify root causes
  • Diagnose intermittent concerns and issues that may not be immediately apparent during an initial inspection
  • Provide clear repair recommendations, parts needs, and labor requirements based on diagnostic findings
  • Perform water testing and sea trials when needed to verify concerns and confirm completed repairs
  • Service and repair Mercury, Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, and other major outboard brands
  • Perform scheduled maintenance, inspections, tune-ups, and preventative service
  • Complete minor and major engine repairs according to manufacturer specifications
  • Repair fuel, cooling, ignition, charging, steering, and control systems
  • Perform quality checks to ensure repairs are completed correctly and minimize comebacks
  • Identify additional maintenance or repair needs that improve vessel reliability and customer safety
  • Perform outboard installations, repowers, rigging, and component replacement
  • Install steering systems, controls, batteries, gauges, wiring, and marine accessories
  • Complete electrical and mechanical upgrades to manufacturer and dealership standards
  • Verify proper engine setup, operating height, control function, steering operation, and overall system performance
  • Support accessory and electronics installations when required
  • Document diagnostic procedures, test results, repairs, parts usage, and recommendations accurately in Lightspeed
  • Maintain complete repair-order notes that clearly explain the concern, cause, and correction
  • Follow dealership and manufacturer procedures for warranty repairs and documentation
  • Communicate additional repair needs promptly to the Service Advisor
  • Maintain accurate time and labor records for all assigned work
  • Work closely with Service Advisors, Parts personnel, and fellow technicians to maintain efficient workflow
  • Provide technical guidance to less experienced technicians when appropriate
  • Assist with difficult diagnostic cases and help reinforce quality repair standards
  • Support staging, launching, water testing, and preparation of boats for customer delivery
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused work area
  • Contribute to a professional, accountable, and team-oriented shop culture
