About The Position

IPG Photonics is seeking an experienced Senior Opto Mechanical Engineer to join a small, cohesive group developing robust, compact laser modules and conversion heads. The role involves working in small, multidisciplinary teams close to the technology, with support from a global, growing company. It is a hands-on position with broad skills application and exposure to complete product development, including the development of precision opto-mechanical and electro-mechanical components used in laser systems.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) required.
At least 5 years of experience developing opto-mechanical devices and systems, or in another related precision mechanical field.
Proficiency in SolidWorks.
Knowledge of various optical mounting techniques.
Functional knowledge of manufacturing and fabrication processes.
Efficient design and development organizational skills.
Clear written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Design and develop optical mounts, components, and laser head packages.
Develop designs from concept through final product, including layouts, details, bills of materials, procedures, and test plans.
Build and qualify prototypes.
Design tooling for optical alignment.
Perform thermal finite element analysis (FEA).
Create and execute tests and tooling for design verification and validation.
Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs.
Create and release production support documentation.
Work closely with internal and external vendors.
Report project status.
May lead a team.
