Senior Optical Engineer
About The Position
At ASML, you will help advance the technology behind some of the world’s most powerful microchips. As a Senior Optical Engineer, you will contribute to the development of advanced optical sensing solutions that support next-generation lithography systems used by leading semiconductor manufacturers around the world. Based in Wilton, Connecticut, this Senior Optical Engineer role is part of the Wafer Alignment Sensor team. You will work on complex optical and photonic systems that enable precise wafer positioning and measurement. Your work will directly support ASML’s mission of enabling faster, more energy-efficient semiconductor technology.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in physics, applied physics, optical engineering, photonics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in optical engineering or photonic system development.
- Experience working with optical alignment, imaging systems, detectors, or laboratory testing environments.
- Experience with data analysis and software development using MATLAB and Python.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
Nice To Haves
- Master’s degree in physics, optics, photonics, or a related discipline preferred.
- Experience with laboratory automation, signal processing, or optical system modeling is beneficial.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop optical and photonic sensor systems for semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
- Build, align, test, and characterize complex optical systems and detector assemblies.
- Analyze performance data to identify issues and improve sensor functionality.
- Lead technical investigations to determine root causes and develop effective solutions.
- Develop and validate signal processing algorithms and experimental test plans.
- Collaborate with software, electronics, manufacturing, and system engineering teams.
- Communicate technical findings clearly to both engineering and business stakeholders.
