About The Position

The University of Oklahoma has a state-of-the-art steam and chill water plant, ensuring our clinic, students, faculty, and staff are safe and comfortable. With this facility, we are searching for a Senior Operating Engineer to help maintain this vital complex and its equipment. This role involves monitoring and inspecting equipment, operating the steam and chilled water plant, performing maintenance on complex equipment, conducting water tests and analysis, troubleshooting problems, and performing periodic preventive maintenance inspections. The position may also involve training new employees on equipment operation, chemical handling, and safety precautions. The Senior Operating Engineer will perform more complex plant maintenance duties, including equipment maintenance and repairs within their expertise.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 18 months of steam and chill water plant operation experience
  • City of Tulsa Unlimited First Class Stationary Engineer License
  • Valid Oklahoma Driver's License or ability to obtain within 30 days from hire date

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and inspects equipment.
  • Operates the steam and chilled water plant by adjusting and controlling steam and chilled water.
  • Performs water tests and analysis.
  • Performs maintenance on complex equipment.
  • Maintains logs of operation, maintenance, and safety activities.
  • Conducts various water tests to check chemical levels and determines when to adjust them.
  • Discusses any problems with Lead or Supervisor.
  • Troubleshoots any problems with the equipment.
  • Performs periodic, preventive maintenance inspections.
  • May train new employees on steam and chill equipment operation and the importance of maintaining equipment records.
  • May train employees on how to mix/combine chemicals, safety precautions, and the proper use of various chemicals.
  • Performs more complex plant maintenance duties, including maintaining equipment and performing repairs within the individual's level of expertise.
