Requirements

  • Strong negotiation and analytical skills, with a deep understanding of market trends.
  • Knowledge of futures, derivatives, and risk management strategies in commodity trading.
  • Ability to manage and optimize the execution of bulk cargo logistics.
  • Ability to manage global trade flows and origin balance sheets.
  • Strong team player, self-motivated and energetic with a drive to learn.
  • Excellent communication skills and relationship management skills.
  • Excellent command of English.
  • Proficiency in pricing strategies, and contract negotiation.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure trading environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Agriculture, Finance or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in ag commodity trading, preferably in Oilseeds.
  • Profitable Oilseeds complex trading history (physical & futures).
  • Experience arbitraging futures and paper markets.
  • Experience of working in a global organization.

Responsibilities

  • Main focus is on physical canola and soybean trading and marketing by domestic origination for export.
  • Monitor global and regional canola / rapeseed and soybean markets, including price movements, supply-demand trends, and macroeconomic factors.
  • Develop and execute trading strategies to capitalize on market opportunities while managing risk exposure.
  • Forecast price trends and analyze market conditions to optimize buying and selling decisions.
  • Develop understanding of local canola and soybean freight markets, charter party terms and laytime calculations.
  • Develop and manage execution of physical canola and soybean books into main destinations, looking to maximize value and minimize inefficiencies.
  • Work closely with the respective destination teams to coordinate and size seasonal export programs.
  • Contribute to assemble the COFCO global trade flow projections for canola / rapeseed and soybeans by actively participating in the discussions on balance sheets and working closely with the respective origin/destination/research teams to make timely adjustments as dictated by changes in supply & demand.
  • Closely collaborate with the other COFCO canola / rapeseed and soybean teams to foster global and regional discussions and identify potential switches as early as possible.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Canadian suppliers.
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, and supply agreements with suppliers and trading partners.
  • Ensure sustainable and cost-effective sourcing while maintaining quality standards.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities with buyers.
  • Negotiate sales agreements and manage customer relationships to ensure long-term partnerships.
  • Provide market insights and advisory support to clients.
  • Use hedging instruments such as futures, options, paper markets to mitigate price volatility risks.
  • Ensure compliance with international trade regulations, sustainability standards, and contractual obligations.
  • Position management + understanding of VAR risk management tools.
  • Work closely with legal and compliance teams to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with logistics and operations teams to ensure timely and efficient product movement.
  • Optimize shipping and transportation costs while ensuring quality control during transit.
  • Coordination with Logistics & Traffic teams on vessel and contract execution.
  • Manage inventory levels and coordinate with storage facilities as needed.
