About The Position

Ability Action Australia is seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist (OT) with 3-5 years of experience to join their team in Cairns. This role offers the opportunity to play a key part in growing and strengthening the Cairns service while maintaining a focus on clinical work and delivering positive outcomes for NDIS participants. The position involves managing a community-based caseload, conducting comprehensive assessments, developing and implementing therapy plans, recommending environmental modifications, prescribing Assistive Technology, and collaborating with various stakeholders. The role emphasizes autonomy, influence, and impact, with opportunities for leadership and service development.

Requirements

  • Current AHPRA registration as an Occupational Therapist
  • 3–5 years of post-graduate experience, ideally within disability or community settings
  • Strong communication skills and confidence working with complex presentations
  • A proactive, client-centred approach and desire to help grow local services
  • Ability to work autonomously while contributing positively to a team culture

  • Interest in a preferred caseload area (e.g. paediatrics, complex needs, functional capacity assessments) — we’ll tailor this together

Responsibilities

  • Manage a community-based caseload aligned to your clinical interests and experience
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments across emotional, cognitive, developmental, psychosocial, and physical domains
  • Develop and implement individualised, evidence-based therapy plans
  • Provide environmental modification recommendations for homes, schools, workplaces, and supported living environments
  • Prescribe and support the implementation of Assistive Technology (AT) to promote independence and participation
  • Work collaboratively with families, support coordinators, and other health professionals
  • Ensure compliance with NDIS guidelines and relevant legislation
