Battelle is seeking a senior-level nuclear engineer with an operational background to develop program policy, procedural, and internal controls documentation for implementing microreactor technology (reactors rated below 20 megawatts electric (MWe)). This role is crucial for the development and testing of the DoD “Project Pele” demonstration program, with the Army considering follow-on deployment of this transportable electric power system (producing between 1-20 MW of electricity) for expeditionary support and installation power. The advanced microreactor program, managed by the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Infrastructure, Energy and Environment (ASA IE&E), Nuclear Energy Office (NEO), requires adherence to Army Regulation 50-7 “Army Reactor Program” and Executive Order (EO) 14304. The position involves integrating information from various government organizations (DoW, DOE, NRC, Federal and State agencies, and Army organizations) to develop policy and guidelines covering reactor operations, quality assurance, system management, safety, security, and environmental controls.
