Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear or Mechanical engineering.
  • Minimum of 20 years of experience in nuclear engineering, with a focus of development of diverse skillsets.
  • Familiarity with various nuclear codes and standard, as well as common nuclear engineering software.
  • U.S. citizenship required to obtain a Department of Energy (DOE-Q) clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on new materials of special interest in nuclear reactors.
  • Conduct studies related to the detection and control of radiation and radioactive contaminants.
  • Study nuclear fuel cycle to define most economical uses of material and safest means of waste products disposal.
  • Recommend various technology options or approaches for system, processes, facility or program improvements in terms of safety, performance, efficiency or costs.
  • Manage the programmatic and technical requirements and development of relevant planning documents.
  • Manage the planning and design of engineering-scale demonstration and test facilities as needed.
  • Collaborate with other agencies and industry in addressing the regulatory, technical, and institutional issues to enable the licensing, construction and operation of fuel cycle facilities.
  • Collaborate with the nuclear industry to assure coordination of technical goals regarding the research activities and/or the design, construction, and operation of fuel cycle research and demonstration facilities.
  • Provide engineering and technical support for the construction, overhaul, testing, and operations of propulsion and reactor plant components.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Develop and implement radiation safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
