About The Position

The Senior Network Engineer is the technical owner for the design, implementation, monitoring, and ongoing support of the company’s hybrid network environment, and leads the network function, including cloud network operations. The role provides secure, reliable connectivity across offices, retail locations, warehouse facilities, AWS and Azure cloud environments, and remote users. It covers Cisco and Meraki switching and wireless infrastructure, Palo Alto firewalls, and VPN services. A key objective is modernizing cloud connectivity by replacing the company’s dependency on Cisco cloud services routers with cloud-native technologies for Azure-to-AWS and cloud-to-site communication. Working independently and with Infrastructure, Security, DevOps, application teams, business stakeholders, and vendors, the engineer establishes standards, leads network projects, resolves complex incidents, and improves network performance, resilience, security, and scalability. The position provides technical guidance and mentoring to other engineers and participates in an on-call rotation for critical network services. The position is primarily performed from a home office or other approved remote work environment. Regular travel to customer sites, meetings, or other business locations is required (10–25%). Duties primarily involve prolonged sitting, computer work, and communication by phone and video conference. Occasional lifting of office materials or equipment up to 15 pounds may be required. The salary range is $115,800 to $130,250 annually, and the position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. Benefits include competitive wages; healthcare, including medical, dental, vision, prescription drugs, and FSAs; a 401(k) plan; paid time off and holidays; paid parental leave; life and disability insurance; an Employee Assistance Program; and professional development and tuition assistance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or equivalent work experience; appropriate certifications and experience may count toward the degree requirement.
  • Seven or more years of progressively responsible network engineering experience, including substantial hands-on responsibility for enterprise physical-site and cloud networking environments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading network implementations, migrations, upgrades, and complex production troubleshooting in a distributed organization.
  • Advanced hands-on experience with Cisco and Meraki switching, routing, wireless, dashboards, templates, and centralized management.
  • Advanced experience configuring and troubleshooting Palo Alto Networks firewalls, security and NAT policies, threat-prevention capabilities, site-to-site VPNs, and remote-access VPN services.
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, IPv4 and IPv6, VLANs, spanning tree, 802.1X, QoS, DNS, DHCP, NAT, IPsec, SSL/TLS, SNMP, OSPF, and BGP.
  • Experience designing and operating resilient WAN, LAN, WLAN, internet-edge, and hybrid connectivity services across geographically distributed locations.
  • Experience with AWS and Azure networking, including virtual networks, routing, security controls, private connectivity, transit architectures, VPN connectivity, and cloud-native monitoring.
  • Experience with network monitoring, alerting, configuration backup, performance analysis, log management, and packet-analysis tools; ability to turn telemetry into actionable operational insight.
  • Working knowledge of network segmentation, zero-trust principles, intrusion detection and prevention, secure remote access, vulnerability remediation, and defense-in-depth practices.
  • Ability to automate administrative and validation tasks using Python, PowerShell, APIs, infrastructure-as-code, or comparable tools.
  • Experience working within formal incident, problem, change, configuration, and asset-management processes.
  • Working knowledge of PCI, SOX, and related control and evidence requirements in an enterprise environment.
  • Confident self-starter.
  • Ability to plan and manage complex networking projects collaboratively with technologists, vendors, and business operations teams.
  • Ability to balance near-term operational responsiveness with longer-term project improvement work.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers.
  • Must maintain a safe, secure, and distraction-free home-office or other approved remote workspace with reliable internet access.
  • Must be able to frequently use a computer, keyboard, mouse, and other standard office equipment and communicate effectively with colleagues, customers, and business partners.
  • Occasional lifting of office materials or equipment up to 15 pounds may be required.
  • Regular travel is required, including visits to customer sites, meetings, or other business locations (10–25%).

Nice To Haves

  • Panorama and GlobalProtect experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Akamai CDN and security services, SIEM platforms, and cloud security or observability tooling is a plus.
  • CCNP, Palo Alto PCNSE, Meraki certification, or comparable industry certification preferred; equivalent practical experience will be considered.

  • Partner with information security to implement defense-in-depth, segmentation, least-privilege access, zero-trust principles, intrusion prevention, and appropriate logging and threat-correlation controls.
  • Develop and maintain network architecture diagrams, configuration standards, operating procedures, asset records, support documentation, and disaster-recovery information.
  • Participate in incident response, problem management, root-cause analysis, and corrective-action planning for network and security events.
  • Automate repeatable network administration, validation, reporting, and monitoring activities using APIs and scripting where practical.
  • Manage technical relationships with telecommunications carriers, managed service providers, and network technology vendors, including escalations and service-performance reviews; partner with the Contracts team on circuit, service, and renewal decisions.
