About The Position

ERG is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to design, implement, secure, and maintain Navy network infrastructures that support mission-critical operations. This role is responsible for engineering robust network architectures, optimizing network performance, and ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of Navy communications systems. The ideal candidate brings strong technical depth in network engineering, hands-on experience with secure DoD environments, and a commitment to maintaining resilient, high-performing network operations. This is a fulltime onsite position at the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Indian Head. Indian Head, MD, is approximately 30 miles from Washington, DC, 25 miles from Alexandria, VA, and 60 miles from Fredericksburg, VA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Network Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in network engineering with a focus on network security
  • DoD Security+ certification required (IAT Level II)
  • Hands-on experience with LAN/WAN architecture, routing protocols, switching technologies, and secure network design
  • Experience with NIPR/SIPR boundary protection, Cross Domain Solutions (CDS) management, and preferably the Defense Research and Engineering Network (DREN)
  • Strong working knowledge of firewalls, VPN technologies, IDS/IPS, and network encryption methods
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex network performance issues
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills
  • Must currently hold or maintain a Department of Defense T5 investigation/privileged access eligibility (T5 (SSBI) clearance)
  • Must be a U.S. citizen as this position is not eligible for Limited Access Authorizations

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with Navy network environments or DoD enterprise networks
  • Familiarity with Cisco, Juniper, or similar enterprise network hardware
  • Knowledge of DoD cybersecurity requirements and RMF-aligned security controls
  • Experience supporting network monitoring tools and compliance activities

Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, and maintain secure LAN/WAN network infrastructures supporting Navy systems
  • Manage routers, switches, firewalls, and other network appliances to ensure optimal performance and reliability
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network outages, latency issues, and configuration errors across enterprise environments
  • Implement and maintain network security controls, including segmentation, access control lists (ACLs), and boundary protections
  • Support cybersecurity monitoring, incident response, and network compliance activities in coordination with security teams
  • Conduct network performance analysis, capacity planning, and optimization to ensure efficient data flow
  • Maintain accurate network diagrams, documentation, and configuration records
  • Ensure all network solutions meet DoD, Navy, and cybersecurity standards
