About The Position

We are seeking a Senior Network Engineer - Edge Networking & Strategic Projects to serve as a technical project lead responsible for the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of Cencora's edge network environments across corporate offices, regional sites, and distribution centers. This is a project-driven, multi-technology role. You will lead complex network projects end-to-end: technology refresh programs, greenfield site buildouts, wireless modernization, SD-WAN migrations, and - as one important workstream among several - the edge network integration and carve-out work associated with mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures (MA&D). The ideal candidate combines deep campus/branch networking and wireless expertise with the structured, project-driven mindset required to execute high-stakes site-level network transitions — often across dozens of locations simultaneously and on aggressive timelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or technical institute degree/certificate in a relevant field, or equivalent work experience
  • 10+ years of hands-on network engineering experience with a demonstrable focus on project-based work (design, implementation, migration)
  • Proven track record of delivering multi-site network projects across at least three of the following technology domains: campus switching, enterprise wireless, SD-WAN/WAN, NAC/802.1X, IoT/OT segmentation, network security appliances
  • Expert-level knowledge of networking protocols, routing, and switching - with deep hands-on experience in Cisco, Aruba/HPE, or comparable enterprise platforms
  • Experience developing and executing migration/integration playbooks for large-scale, multi-site rollouts
  • Experience with network automation and scripting (Python, Ansible, Terraform, or similar) to drive repeatable, scalable project delivery
  • Familiarity with Git or other version control systems for managing configurations and automation code
  • Strong project execution mindset - comfortable managing your own workstream within a larger program, hitting milestones, and communicating status
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Effective communicator who can translate complex technical designs into business-friendly language for leadership and cross-functional partners
  • Exceptional presentation skills - able to lead design reviews, project kick-offs, and stakeholder updates
  • Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple concurrent projects
  • Technical leadership, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Understanding of ITSM processes (for project-to-operations handoff)

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced certifications strongly preferred: CCNP Enterprise, CCIE, or other vendors equivalent
  • Direct experience supporting M&A integration or divestiture network workstreams
  • Experience engineering network solutions in warehouse, distribution center, or logistics environments
  • Hands-on experience with SASE platforms, cloud-managed networking, and SD-WAN orchestration – Multivendor Platforms
  • Exposure to infrastructure-as-code practices for network environments
  • Experience leading or mentoring technical teams in a project context

Responsibilities

  • Own the edge network reference architecture and standards
  • Serve as the enterprise subject-matter expert for campus/branch network architecture - access/distribution/core switching, enterprise wireless, SD-WAN, remote access and security
  • Engineer solutions for distribution center-specific requirements - high-density wireless for handheld scanners and mobile devices, ruggedized infrastructure for warehouse environments, and IoT/OT network segmentation for conveyor systems, automation equipment, and building management systems
  • Evaluate, lab-test, and recommend emerging edge technologies - Wi-Fi 7, SASE, NAC modernization, and network automation/orchestration - driving adoption through proof-of-concept projects
  • Develop and maintain standardized site network designs, cabling standards, wireless heat maps, and architecture templates that accelerate future project delivery
  • Lead complex, multi-site network projects end-to-end - from requirements gathering and design through implementation, testing, and handoff to operations - on schedule and within budget
  • Build repeatable, templatized project run-books and migration playbooks that can be executed across dozens of sites in parallel; coordinate with local site contacts, field technicians, and smart-hands resources
  • Drive technology refresh and modernization programs - switch lifecycle replacements, wireless upgrades, SD-WAN rollouts, and NAC re-platforming - across the entire site portfolio
  • Architect interim-state and phased migration designs (e.g., temporary site-to-site VPNs, dual-homed WAN circuits, split-tunnel configurations) that allow transitions without disrupting warehouse operations or order fulfillment
  • Coordinate hardware staging, pre-configuration, and logistics - working with procurement to ship edge equipment (switches, APs, SD-WAN appliances) to sites ahead of scheduled cutovers
  • Manage project-level risk, dependencies, and escalations; communicate status clearly to project managers, leadership, and business stakeholders
  • Lead the edge network workstream for MA&D events - from due diligence through site-by-site cutover to steady-state handoff - as one component of the broader project portfolio
  • Conduct on-site and remote technical discovery of target/divested company locations: audit switching, wireless, WAN, and local security infrastructure; catalog ISP/carrier circuits; assess cabling plant condition; map VLAN structures and IP schemes; evaluate physical rack/MDF/IDF layouts
  • Develop site integration playbooks - hardware refresh/reuse decisions, VLAN and IP re-addressing, NAC onboarding, SD-WAN overlay enrollment, wireless SSID migration, and print/peripheral reconfiguration
  • Architect divestiture carve-out plans - cleanly separating shared LAN/WLAN infrastructure, local circuits, firewall rules, and guest/corporate segmentation while maintaining continuity through the Transition Services Agreement (TSA) period
  • Coordinate circuit provisioning and decommissioning with ISPs, MPLS/SD-WAN providers, and local carriers
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Security, Systems, Cloud, Application, Facilities, and OT/Warehouse Operations teams to ensure seamless edge integration during projects and MA&D events
  • Partner with Project Management and Corporate Development to align network milestones with broader deal timelines, budgets, and business commitments
  • Coordinate with field services and third-party vendors (cabling contractors, smart-hands providers, hardware resellers) to execute physical site work
  • Develop and enforce edge network policies and standards, ensuring compliance with Cencora security and regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA, SOX, DEA for distribution center environments)
  • Mentor and guide junior network engineers; serve as the technical escalation point for complex site-level design and project issues
  • Drive automation of repeatable project and MA&D tasks - templatized switch/AP configurations, automated VLAN provisioning, scripted SD-WAN onboarding, zero-touch provisioning workflows - to accelerate delivery at scale
