Requirements

  • 8+ years of senior enterprise network engineering experience.
  • Strong routing, switching, WAN, wireless, firewall, and VPN expertise.
  • Experience documenting enterprise environments and creating network diagrams.
  • Ability to assess poorly documented environments independently.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Municipal or public-sector IT experience.
  • Experience with Cisco, Aruba, Fortinet, Palo Alto, Juniper, or Meraki.
  • Knowledge of Zero Trust and network segmentation.
  • Experience with enterprise monitoring platforms and structured change management.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, document, stabilize, and modernize an enterprise network following the departure of key network personnel.
  • Evaluate the current environment, identify operational and security risks, produce comprehensive documentation, develop a practical roadmap, and provide hands-on engineering support as required.
  • Assess the enterprise network infrastructure and operational readiness.
  • Review routing, switching, WAN, wireless, firewalls, VPNs, and network segmentation.
  • Conduct stakeholder interviews and evaluate existing documentation.
  • Identify operational, resiliency, and cybersecurity risks.
  • Create network diagrams, inventories, standards, and operational runbooks.
  • Develop executive-ready findings and recommendations.
  • Prepare a 12–24 month network modernization roadmap.
  • Implement approved improvements and mentor staff.
  • Coordinate with vendors and provide weekly status reports.
