About The Position

As a Machinery Controls Expert and Cyber Security Specialist, you will join a vibrant and expanding team of Electrical, Marine, Mechanical, and Structural Engineers, as well as Naval Architects, at our onsite or remote work location. Your role will involve providing advanced technical support on diverse engineering ship design projects, both as an individual contributor and as part of a collaborative engineering team. Your primary focus will be on supporting the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and the Military Sealift Command (MSC). This role requires a deep understanding of both machinery controls and cyber security, along with the ability to integrate these disciplines into the design and analysis of shipboard systems.

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Engineering (BSE/BE), BS/AS in Electrical Engineering Technology (EET) or marine engineering; or similar background and/or specialized such as significant US Navy enlisted equivalency training with an Associate’s degree will be accepted in lieu of Bachelor’s degree
  • US Citizen with the ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance
  • 10-20 years of experience in US Naval Ship Engineering, either within the NAVSEA/PEO Governmental Organizations, Shipyard Construction and Repair, Ship Operations (as a USCG Certified Officer or US Naval Officer), NAVSEA contractor support, or similar electrical power systems experience.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with complex technical issues.
  • The ability to create graphical representations and PowerPoints
  • Ability to become proficient in researching digital databases to provide key findings and technical solutions to our clients.
  • Ability to read and decipher technical electrical documentation (2D AutoCAD drawings, manuals, datasheets, cost estimations, reports, etc.).
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Willingness to travel 10% of the time
  • Capable of performing verification ship checks onboard MSC and Navy ships.

Nice To Haves

  • MSC Transalts experience; ship checks, package development, quality assurance, redlines, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze preliminary and functional design documentation of shipboard electrical, marine, control, and alarm and monitoring systems. Assess their alignment with commercial standards and safety practices, with a particular emphasis on cyber security implications and machinery control integration.
  • Perform contractual specification write-up and review. Research and ensure compliance with regulatory rules and commercial standards, including cyber security protocols and machinery control standards.
  • Develop and oversee deliverables, quality assurance processes, root cause failure analyses, and risk assessments for electrical and control systems on Navy vessels. Ensure that cyber security measures are integrated into all aspects of system design and implementation.
  • Write technical reports on the assessment of electrical and control systems on Navy vessels, highlighting any cyber security vulnerabilities and recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Be well-versed in commercial standards such as ABS MVR, ABS NVR, SOLAS, ASTM, ANSI, MIL-S901, Navy GSO, EPA, IEC, IEEE 45, etc., with a focus on their application to cyber security and machinery controls.
  • Conduct engineering site visits and ship checks at various Navy and Commercial Shipyards. Perform electrical and control system analyses and ensure the implementation of commercial and naval engineering requirements, including cyber security measures for electrical power systems, electromechanical systems, and control systems.
  • Perform electrical feasibility and trade-off studies for the selection of generators, motors, variable frequency drives, transformers, Uninterruptable Power Systems (UPS), control panels, cables, timers, circuit breakers, power panels, batteries, relays, etc., with a focus on cyber security resilience and machinery control efficiency.
  • Collaborate with QA/review engineering mid-level, senior, and expert staff to generate final electrical and control system technical products (e.g., Contract Deliverables, reports, etc.), ensuring that cyber security and machinery control best practices are incorporated.
  • Demonstrate self-starter initiative, multi-tasking capability, technical savvy, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively market the capabilities of our team, with a special emphasis on cyber security and machinery control expertise.
