About The Position

The Team Lead Naval Architecture (NA) is responsible for assisting the NA Capability Manager by leading a portion of the NA Team in either Halifax/Ottawa/Victoria. Supports the Capability Manager and may perform management duties when the Manager is absent or out of office. Manages work assignments/allocations for direct reports, including negotiations with PMs & implementing resulting ERP updates (or replacement tool). Reviews/approves timesheets for direct reports. Conducts performance personnel reviews for direct reports, including establishment of Personal Development Plans (PDPs). Establishes and maintains recurring one-on-one meetings with direct reports. Provides encouragement to team members, including communicating team goals and identifying areas for new training or skill checks. Assists the Capability Manager with hiring processes (e.g., conduct candidate screening, first round interviews, etc.) and new team member training. Assists Capability Manager with Department strategies and initiatives. Answers team member questions, helps with team member problems, and oversees team member work for quality and guideline compliance. Supports the Capability Manager to develop strategies to promote team members to meet the company performance goals. Conducts team meetings to update team members on best practices and continuing expectations. Other duties assigned by the Capability Manager.

Requirements

  • Degree in Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Naval Architecture
  • Existing registration or ability to obtain registration with Professional Engineering governance body in Province of work
  • Eligible for a Canadian security clearance
  • Demonstrated team leadership experience
  • Experience within the marine, naval, defense or government sectors
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience participating in recruitment and interviewing processes
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
  • Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills
  • Comfortable presenting and briefing senior leaders and executives
