We have an exciting opportunity for a Municipal/Civil Engineer to join our Municipal Department in our Halifax, Nova Scotia office! As our ideal candidate, you bring a wealth of experience in municipal infrastructure and a passion for leading projects and people. You have a strong track record designing and managing projects related to water transmission, distribution, pumping and storage; wastewater collection and pumping; and stormwater management. You take a leadership role in the projects and with your expertise you will play a key role in project planning, execution, and delivery while mentoring junior staff and contributing to the success of our multidisciplinary team.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in civil engineering is required, with a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration with Engineers Nova Scotia
  • Working in a leadership position with a multidisciplinary consulting engineering firm for more than 10 years with the last 2 years leading and directing large municipal infrastructure projects
  • Experience leading and managing the design of large infrastructure projects within Atlantic Canada, with working knowledge of Atlantic Canadian regulations and various municipal standards
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to prepare technical reports, proposals, and presentations
  • Ability to liaise effectively with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, maintain attention to detail, with the ability to thrive in a deadline-oriented environment
  • A collaborative mindset and a passion for contributing to a positive team environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Ontario-based projects and municipal class environmental assessments would be considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the preparation of contract documents and conduct quality checks on deliverables to maintain CBCL’s high standards
  • Contribute to the design and planning of infrastructure projects for cities, towns, provincial/federal governments, industrial sites and developers
  • Provide people and technical leadership across project development and delivery, including overseeing engineering calculations, refining design concepts, and ensuring compliance with client requirements and regulatory standards. Support business development by responding to RFPs, managing client relationships, and participating in industry associations and conferences. Collaborate closely with senior engineers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver effective, innovative solutions
  • Conduct and lead site visits, field assessments, and infrastructure investigations. Provide technical guidance during construction, review contractor work for compliance, and support resident engineering services as needed
  • Prepare and review technical reports, feasibility studies, design drawings, cost estimates, proposals, and tender documents. Manage project deliverables, coordinate with clients and stakeholders, and contribute to business development efforts
  • Present findings at industry conferences and share expertise through technical papers and presentations
  • Develop and enhance tools, workflows, and design standards that improve project efficiency and outcomes
  • Identify and explore new service areas to expand our Municipal Group
