About The Position

At Toole Design, we're leading the way in creating safer, more connected communities through sustainable multimodal transportation design. We're looking for a Senior Engineer to join our team in Boston, MA. This role is for someone who understands conventional transportation engineering but believes auto-centric design is outdated, and is excited to lead challenging sidewalk, bikeway, and Complete Streets projects that make communities safer and more livable. The ideal candidate enjoys managing projects and building strong industry relationships. We are a purpose-driven team of engineers, planners, landscape architects, and urban designers who believe streets should work for everyone. You'll work alongside thought leaders and industry experts who are committed to mentoring and helping you grow your expertise.

Requirements

• PE license (Massachusetts or Rhode Island preferred)
• BS or MS in Civil Engineering or related field
• 10+ years of experience developing preliminary/final design plans, specifications, estimates, or engineering studies
• 3+ years managing and delivering public-sector projects
• Familiarity with MassDOT, RIDOT, and/or MaineDOT, AASHTO, NACTO, MUTCD, and related standards
• Experience delivering projects with public agencies and transportation permitting
• Interest in Complete Streets, bicycle, and pedestrian facility design

Nice To Haves

• Proficiency in one or more of the following: AutoCAD, Civil3D, MicroStation, InRoads, Synchro, Highway Capacity Software, SIDRA, or VISSIM
• Experience in Complete Streets, bicycle, and pedestrian facility design
• Experience with a stormwater design software is a plus (e.g. HydroCAD or HydroFlow)
• Experience reviewing construction plans, supporting construction bidding, and overseeing construction operations

Responsibilities

• Lead creative solutions for complex transportation challenges, guiding multimodal and Complete Streets projects from concept through construction.
• Oversee urban roadway reconstructions and streetscapes to regional trail projects.
• Mentor an interdisciplinary team.
• Oversee feasibility studies, final design plans, and construction documents.
• Manage scope, schedule, budget, and client relationships across the Northeast.
• Support business development efforts.
• Collaborate with a close-knit team passionate about delivering high-quality work that makes communities safer and more livable.
